Robert Bowling (FourZeroTwo), I know he is a mod on the IW forums, but he has responded to a tweet,

fourzerotwo: Definitely made a big wave, and the response will not be ignored. I'll ensure everyone at IW sees the petitions and responses to it.

Re: No dedicated servers for MW2

nope they have completely abandoned the wishes of the gaming community and thusly they will lose a massive portion of their PC sales. I wont be buying it i think im gunna keep an eye on Bad Company 2 that looks quite promising.

you know why they are doing this right? 3 letters.

D L C They want us to pay for new skins, weapons and maps.

"All in all, IWNET adds a load of new features that the PC version of our games have never had before and allows us an infrastructure to continue to update and improve on the game post-launch."
A response i read from someone on another forum
The bolded part translates to: "allows us an infrastructure to sell you maps, skins, perks, etc on a micro-transaction basis to milk as much money out of our customers as possible."
    Here is another:

Playlists and Private Matches: As I described above, Playlists are pre-set game modes and gametypes for public games. If you just want to jump into a public game of Search and Destroy or Hardcore Search and Destroy and you don’t care about fully customizing it, then you can utilize playlists to do that quickly for you. However, say you’re in a clan and you want to play a Clan match with another team, or you want to practice for an upcoming tournament that has specific rules in a private game. Then you can start a Private Match (which is essentially like running your own private server) where you have complete control over the rules, who can join, boot players you don’t want, and essentially control the entire game or tweak it to your liking. Once the rules are set, you can invite the other team in or just start it up with your clan to practice with the custom rules before the match. This now allows you to play custom games out of the box without the need to install mods, find a modded server with the rules you like, or worry about not being in control of the match.

Oh yes; that's going to work well for competitive or even recreational teams. One team with a player with 0 ping; the rest with 1-200. Matchmaking is fine and the things they are setting up sound like they would work; but not as the sole option for gamers. P2P gaming does not and will not work on the PC.

Re: No dedicated servers for MW2

The 'reassurances' don't really tell us anything more, other than that a lot of PC gamers apparently find the server browser system a hassle.

I don't see how that justifies eliminating dedicated servers, by all means they should build on the system of finding games to make it more accessable, but I honestly don't see how they couldn't have implemented the 'playlist' system using dedicated servers. It could have been done simply as a fancy front-end for the existing browsers since all it is is a bunch of preset filters.

It honestly still feels to me like Activision just decided to cut development and upkeep costs by eliminating the part of the PC platform that's unique - and that isn't helped by the fact that it was mentioned in the original webcast that cross-platform games weren't on the cards because nobody had talked about it. Come on! That's the sort of thing a homogeneous back-end should allow! To have not even thought about it is just...what the hell guys, what the hell.

And because it's worth saying again, why no demo? Do they not think it's worth showing people it works?

It hasn't slowed the petition down - now at 117,525 signatures.

Talk about trying to sugar coat the issue rather than addressing it. I don't understand why you can't have the option to either use their matchmaking system (which probably has some limited benefits) or choose your own dedicated server to join (for the majority of users). It's not like it hasn't been done before.

With your own dedicated server, you can host whatever you want, provided that your users have the same maps/mods etc. With IWnet you're at the mercy of their dedicated servers on which they dictate content. That means no extra maps unless they official release them through DLC or whatever, mod servers(unless it's so good that they have to add it) and other extra stuff that comes with privately hosted dedicated servers.

Cancelled my pre-order too. If I wanted a console game, I would've ordered the console version.

If they bring in dedicated servers later, then sure, i'll be a fair whack of people will go out and buy it, but word of mouth from the 100k + signing the petition will surely hurt potential sales in the first few weeks.
