No need to breadcrumbs, if you get lost, just use the /spawn command and poof, you are back at home

There's not much to get. It's digital Lego with monsters in dark places. Build whatever you can imagine and try to stay alive

Apologies, your right. So seen as how the spawn point is fixed on the MP map this is good.

I was the same to be honest. What got me hooked was all the Vids on YouTube which covered their own stories, projects and general micky-taking.

I'd recommend checking out the YogsCast, they're an entertaining watch/listen to and their early vids help with learning the game in general.

    Re: Minecraft?

Ooo I didn't know that about the compass and clock, I wonder if it works if you no longer have the items?
I used my compass to make my map and my clock was eaten by lava

Minecraft is a true sandbox game, there's no goal or story, no invisible walls or set path, just a big randomly generated world for you to play in, with monsters than show up and kill you.

Also remember that this is the survival version not the free to play creative version, which is real digital lego. (old school lego, where there's only one type of block just in lots of colours)

    Re: Minecraft?

Madduck, the inital spawn point is fixed until you sleep in a bed. The bed then becomes the spawn point.

    Re: Minecraft?

If you use a bed that becomes your spawn point when you die, but a compass always points to the initial spawn point (the place /spawn takes you to) no matter how many times you use a bed.

As for 1.8 Notch is apparently aiming for a November release but it might slip. I propose we reset the server then and create a proper town rather than our current haphazard layout. Create a grid of roads/rails/canals and then let people build what they like in their plot. Town hall in the middle of town for the spawn point/rail station/communal chests. Of course there's nothing stopping people becoming hermits and hiding in a cave/mine out of town

Full list of 1.8 changes here: http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features

    Re: Minecraft?

Sure the bed spawn point was only in SP?

Anyway, there's some nice changes coming in 1.8 but I see no reason why need to start a new map, we could just start laying foundations for a town away from the current area and put the spawn there when ready. Then people won't lose what they've made already.

And this time, I would suggest that there should be no mob traps under the main "town" and any mining down there will be communal. If you want your own mine shaft you can start it away from the town to not get the mish mash of madness under our current home.
