They try TOO HARD to brand people. Good customer service and reliable products "brands" me, nothing more, nothing less.
The touch screen (& keyboard) is the whole point of these phones, imho. So I don't think the Vario3 and N95 can be compared, as they are for different types of customers.
You can GET the keyboard, but would you USE it? Really? It's hard enough having to charge my bluetooth headset each night, along with my phone. Would you really want to have to plug more things in each day after your -already - long day?
-> Branding: What you say sounds good. Can't stand being "branded", but then English people are just plain hard to sell to.
-> Excel finances - not going overdrawn: lol.
-> Touchflo - like the Touch: I know the HTC Kaiser (120) has the TouchFlo, but does the MDA Vario 3 also have the Touch Technology? I thought HTC only licensed the HW, not the SW as well? Is it actually the TouchFlo, or is it T-Mobile's own implementation?
My plan (in feb, when my contract ends) is to get an MDA3, eBay it, and get the Kaiser 120, DUE TO the touch flo interface. If the MDA already has it, I wouldn't bother, esp if it hasn't been so heavily branded... Your thoughts appreciated.
Yeah, finally phones are getting BT2.0, so these Stereo BT HPs are becoming viable options...

The kaiser is the MDA Vario III. The touch flow is on it - you need to download this:
Kaiser Touchflo Development Alpha beta testing {duttythroy,Raven_coda & Kona_Mtbkr} - xda-developers
Slither's CUBE CAB.. w/ UNO & SCLPC! (HTC CUBE / FTouchFlo / Flash Lite) All in One - xda-developers
For the cube.
The phone is superb mate - you won't regret getting it!

Many thanks, mate - I will look at those links. (Only looked briefly, but... full Touch Flo would be something I'd like to try out - esp as a few friends of mine have iPod Touch phones iPhones...)
Can I take it that YOU have the MDA Vario, and not the Kaiser, then, and are talking from actual experience?
"The phone is superb" - including the style and branding? Looking here, it doesn't look to "pink", so maybe it'll be alright.
I'm not sure whether to get the one with Co-Pilot again, as I wouldn't need a bluetooth receiver (one built-in, and got a BT-GPS from my Vario1 Package), and I'm thinking of trying TomTom software. Any thoughts?
Thanks again.
Currently running TT on my vario, works really well. Have just ordered an 8gb miro sd card, so going to laod that up when it arrives. Other thing on the shopping list is a mount to secure it properly in the car.
Yes, Bazzlad has a Vario III (aka the Kaiser), had it since November if i remember correctly
I was dubious of the T-mobile breanding before I got mine, but it isn't bad at all. The silver instead of black is good as well.
HTC make the phone. It's called a TYTNii codenamed the kaiser.
T-Mobile buy it and brand it - it's called the MDA Vario III
Orange buy it and brand it - and call it the SPV something
O2 buy it and brand it - call it the XDA something
It's the same phone mate.
I use Tom-Tom on mine and it rocks. End ofI'm not sure whether to get the one with Co-Pilot again, as I wouldn't need a bluetooth receiver (one built-in, and got a BT-GPS from my Vario1 Package), and I'm thinking of trying TomTom software. Any thoughts?
Get it and enjoy it!
I'm not a huge fan of TomTom.
I tried Google Navigator but it doesn't work on the Kaiser right now because of HTCs lack of graphics drivers. Been in touch with the author and there is a software only version in the works. Don't have a release date though. To me, it looks far more advanced than TomTom.
This looks like it could be very interesting - Skyfire browser for Windows Mobile is game changing, does Flash - Engadget
Yes, and I would be interested, if it weren't for their "privacy" policy:

Yeah, read about that, I think I'll pass on it
Think I'm going to buy Opera Mobile though
Thank you - exceedingly helpful post.
I keep holding my breath on minimo. (mobile/mini mozilla.) I have tried (repeatedly) to get it working on my Vario, and - following either .cab or .exe installation - I don't get a working end-result. Gets on my nerves. I'm not really too plussed on PIE, but it's all I've got atm.
Was that sarcasm?
Yeah, I'm not keen on PIE myself - it's slow and painful to navigate.
Mozilla have said repeatedly that they are going to enter the mobile browser market
schrep's blog: Mozilla and Mobile
Can. Not. Wait.
It's the new Opera 9.5 I'm looking forward too.
If it works well and is reliable, i'll happily pay for it.
Didn't know wbout that. Might be the right push for me to move away from IE7
