I'm in agreement there is no mandate for no deal. The campaign promises in 2016 said it would be a walk in the park, we would get a ridiculous sum of money each week for the NHS. (The Head of the NHS actually asked when he was getting his money. Silence.)

This latest escapade is a desperate attempt by Boris to move to complete anarchy. Its got desperate.

My current hope is that article 50 is extended to January. The EU tax evasion laws should hopefully come into force and the financial backers of the brexit campaign and the tory government should face the fire of what they have been so desperate to avoid.

If bojo does quit to avoid having to carry out the mandated actions in the European Union (Withdrawal) (No. 2) Act 2019, does that mean he's surrendering?

    Re: Boris is Boss

My take is that we three years on, we don't really know what *is* the will of the people anymore. I wouldn't assert it is remain even though I am pro-remain, though I strongly assert we need to find out. For something that, unlike GE has no guarantee on being voted on again every 4 years, I think it is only appropriate that extra scrutiny is applied.

I look at it this way. For a parking ticket fine, I don't expect to appeal all the way to the Supreme court, but for something like the prorogation I did because of consequence is so far reaching. A confirmatory referendum (I will continue to call it that because regardless I personally will accept it as final if leavers win again) is a very small price for something what will so fundamentally change the UK's future.

Also, I realise that polls put remains ahead for a while now, but polls also put remains ahead prior the referendum.

I know some would-be remain voters assume it was the bag and not vote as a result of the polls, and I hope kand don't expect) remainers to make that mistake again.

Well, the new deal is on the table.

    Here's a Tweet with Boris giving a speech about it - https://twitter.com/10DowningStreet/...804957697?s=20

I would be gobsmacked if the EU accept that. An undefined 'new deal' for N. Ireland, and customs checks 'at points in the pipeline'. There's no substance to this at all.

I bet OilSheik is turning in his virtual grave, and Theresa May is sitting at home laughing her ass off.

Just another attempt to cover up the fact they are pushing for no deal and want something to point at when blaming the EU for all our woes.

Actually seems like they're trying, and already doing better than May et al.

Sadly the EU will reject any deal that involves the UK actually leaving, and Parliament will reject any deal at all, because stopping Brexit is more important than doing what the British people want. No Deal is still more likely, as that may be the only thing to force the EU to start negotiating. I still think Boris will ignore the surrender bill, and damn the consequences...

Yes, it's the EU's fault that they won't accommodate a deal with zero substance (takes off sarcasm hat). It is based around (For NI) kicking decisions down the road to fix and decide later. YOou can't build a legally binding agreement around that type of premise.

If this is what Boris has been working "so hard on" since he became PM, then he and his team are more inept than I gave them credit for.

Of course the EU won't accept it. He needs to provide the legal framework for it all as well. He is yet to do this (because they still don't know how they can adhere to the Good Friday Agreement outside the EU). As such, it is a deal without legal substance. No-one in their right mind would accept that. So why should the EU?

But it's all okay. Another wee bribe for the DUP and he might get it through....

He might get it through parliament, but that's moot if the EU tell him to do one.

    Re: Boris is Boss

Puts the boot in the lie that they're trying for a deal. Johnson and his backers are definitely going for No Deal.

I saw a leaked memo telling Tories to call the EU 'crazy' for not accepting the deal. BUt if you're doing customs checks at point of loading, what's to stop the truck stopping 5 miles down the road and picking up contraband?
There is absolutely nothing of substance in this 'deal', it's purely an exercise in saying 'look, we tried' whilst not actually trying.

If he got it through parliament, which is unlikely, then the EU has a choice of agreeing or a No-deal Brexit, which, of course, hurts them far more than the UK.

You really believe that? They'll lose a free trade deal with 1 country, we'll lose it with 27. Sure, we're the winners there...

And yes, we can make trade deals with the rest of the world, but it takes 5-7 years to get one together, meanwhile we're stuck on WTO rules.

I, for one, am looking forward to the UK being able to do all our own trade deals. After all the people working on the EU negotiations are doing such a stellar job. What could possibly go wrong?

Of course. The UK doesn't pay them billions of pounds (more), to start with. Then there's the fact that the UK imports far more than it exports to the EU. They need that trade! WTO rules don't mean the end of all trade.
