Mine are STILL going at the sodding lid.
They actually made some progress today. They managed to dig one of the tunnels all the way towards the front of the ant farm, so I've now got a clear view right down the length of one of their tunnels.
The problem is, I think they got a bit disheartened by the fact they hit an invisible barrier after making all that progress, cos they've given up on digging again now.
Well I think the majority of my ant have now given up, as progress has slowed. Thay have managed to join the two middle tunnels and deepen the two smaller ones slightly but very few seem to be working now.
I think I need some larvae. If it would stop raining long enough for the ants to come out and play I'd go and find some but they seem to hide when its wet.

If I put them in th dark they form a group and do nothing, if I put them in the light they try and eat the lid and run around stupidly.
My ants have made major progress, gonna post some pictures later tonight, got my girlfriend round now though so otherwise engaged
UPDATE
They are still being bloody useless (all on surface; see the antcam {sig}). Perhaps I should put in some more (only got 15)... but not until they are all in the tunnels and they won't run out when I put some in. Famished you're IP needs updating.
Anybody tried this on them...
See how they react if they don't bloody well do someting soon.
I'm trying an expetiment.
Pregress is being made in the tunnels but only a few ants seem to be doing it.
I've made a lid to block out most of the light from the top. This way All their light comes from below. If they want to move to the light they will need to go into the tunnels which I hope will cause them to dig more! On the other hand they could just think it's night and stop all work for the day.

My computer randomly restarted - was my camera driver it crashed and restarted the computer (according to MS error reporting thing). Tis updating again.
More pictures. Showing my lid experiment which appears to be working well.
Taken about mid day today when there was a reasonable amount of action happening for a short period. Not long after they managed to join the 2 main tunnels.
A busy patch with 3 ants in the main area and one in the smaller tunnel.
Four ants at work at its busiest earlier.
Lid: As work had dropped off all afternoon I decided to try an experiment to see if I could get the ants that were trying to get out the top to dig in the tunnels.
Success!!! Work speeds up with 5 ants in the main area with one or two more removing waste.
A few minutes later! I can’t remember if this was 7, 8 or 9 ants as its hard to tell in the pic as in one or two spots they are passing each other, but it’s getting much busier and by far the most ants yet.
It's still just as busy or more so. I've now turned it around now so that they tunnel towards the back a little more rather than just along the front window. Looking in the top it appears that there are no longer any large groups and non are trying to get out the top. The ants all appear to be spread out and working.

Most of my ants are now digging away and I swear to god that some of the larvae have been born. As you can see in this photo the one to the top is loads smaller and I have never noticed her before. She is also loads lighter than the others which is strange.
The ants are digging this tunnel really well now looks like they are gonna go full circle and go to the top again.
p.s any chance we can get this thread stuck to the top of the forum or something?

Its a rubbish Nikon E3700 3.2MP camera, picked it up when it was half price at PC World. God that tunnel has actually extended quite a bit in the last hour, I may need to update another picture.
