My Ant Farm (Nature at work) *56k warning*

Same- this thread has made me very interested in getting one of these for the nostalgia value at least (I've had a couple ant farms before, but they were for science projects in primary school/cubs ages ago). Just the small problem of the money atm..

I had a Worm Works years and years ago.. That was OK, but you couldn't see them very well. Anyworks looks pretty swish.

My ants are 100% lazy, today i gave the whole thing a good whole shake up to liven them up.

I will post up a picture later today, I swear some of mine have started to escape, there seems to be less each day.

If they all die I will still save the antworks and find some more ants over summer

Well mine all stopped work then died 1 by 1... I let the last few out. Interestingly I let them out near their original nest and where the dead ones where the other ants picked them up and carried them off almost straight away. Not once did the ants carry off the dead from the tunnels of my antworks.

I think I'm going to order some from that company.

WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING IN MY ANT WORLD?

Well my ants have just started to liven up and start digging, for once, so yay!

However they decided to be unproductive and dig straight towards the plastic (front) probably so they could get a better view of beautiful moi. Anyway there is now a small little circle pressed up against the front of this container and all the ants are crowing in that small space, hardly being able to move etc. In a space of about 8mm diameter, there were like 10 ants squeezing up against the oplastic, why were they doing it, i don't kno!

All the ants seem to have taken refuge in the largest tunnel (where this tunnel going to the plastic is connected to) so very few are now on the surface, and all other tunnels have been abandoned more or less. However i fear for one of my ants, as it seems not to have moved for ages at the bottom of the one tunnel, so i guess its dead, however the ants have not carried the ant up to the surface as per the book, and i can't really put a cocktail stick down the whole as i will probably impale a fair few ants as well!!!

So my ants are living and are more lively than ever.

I may just give them a fresh breath of air.......
