The yellow harvester ants are the best ones for digging! I just wish mine would dig down istead of sideways, ah well the introduction of another 20 should help.

Matt1eD: Basically I only covered the open air part of the antworks. If you look at the image below you can see what it does. It is actually about 5 or 6mm below the top of the gel so that little or no light gets directly in the top area. I planned to do a proper top on it but only had a small amount of card left so I kept it a loose top whoch is good cos I can peak.

Also turning the back of the antworks towards the light has got them to start towards the back of the antworks.

Although they are still not tunneling down.

just had my second batch of ants delivered and they are black ants and not like yellow ants like my first lot, what should I do???? I am curious that they might fight but I think my new ants might need putting in the garden or sending to any of you that want them for a discounted rate.

The americans can get a base with led's to light it up. I'm sure that would get them to tunnel down. http://www.hobbytron.com/Antworks-Illuminator.html

Just sent them a email asking if they ship to the UK.

Wow look at the difference between my two different types of ants. I have just put one black ant in to see what happens. At the moment she is just wondering around at the top of the antworks. At least the others have not attacked her.

    Eeeeeek!

I had an ant on its back so I thought I'd make sure it was ok. Anyway I liftet the lid and a few made a dash for it. in stopping htem from getting out I managed to squash the leg of one and another is now on its back

Whats worse is that the first one has now got up again.

nah it did nothing, just walked around at the top, it did not even go down any of the tunnels, I think it missed its friends. Have taken her out now anyway. Still not sure what to do regarding the 20 new black ants I have. I might introduce 5 later and see what happens.
