I was obviously not born to be an ant keeper
Annoyed at the lack of progress being made in my ant farm compared to the rest of hexus, I decided to go hunting for eggs. I dug up 2 ant farms, and found nothing, just more ants.
So, I collected some more ants from (what I suspected to be) the same colony I got my original ants from, stuck them in an empty ribena bottle, and headed up to my ant farm.
The sun is quite low in the sky at the moment, and is shining directly on the ant farm, which I guess has made it quite wamr and given the ants a lot of energy. I wasn't confident that I would be able to get the lid off and put the new ants in before the original ants tried to run away, so I decided to try out the vaseline idea.
I can tell you all now, it's utter rubbish. It doesn't stop the ants from going anywhere they want to! I ended up grabbing a huge blob of it, and smearing the rim of the ant famr with it hastily, trying to cut off any ants making an escape.
....instead, I ended up encasing half the ants in petroleum jelly, and hideously mutilating the others. It's a really gross feeling having your hands covered in ants and vaseline....they make it feel all lumpy.
Of my 16 original ants, only 7 have survived....not including two that are suspended from the lid in a big blob.
Bugger.

My hands are now nice and moisturised though.
Every cloud has it's silver lining I guess.
Poor ants, they were so small
No, I haven't put them in yet, they're still in the ribena bottle, and to be honest they might as well stay in there cos I doubt they'll do anything more interesting in the farm.
I tell you what, if anyone wants the bloody thing they can have it for a fiver (plus whatever it costs for postage). It comes with 7 lazy ants, half a tub of vaseline (pre installed) and patented 'Post-it note' covers for the air holes.
A bargain. Not.
Hey I did the post in notes too!

Ick I've had an antastraphy!!!! I now have a total of 3 dead ants. Not sute what happened but one looks like it may have been in a fight. I think the other could have been the one that was originally on its back or the one that I traped the leg at the top.
Not much progress with the digging today either!

I believe I got my ant farm before you did, therefore it's likely I adapted the post-it notes to their new purpose first.Originally Posted by Legin76

I am selling my second batch of black ants now, there is no way I want to introduce them. I can just see the front page of The Sun saying a hexus.net forum member is put away after arranging a new trend in insect fighting known as Ant Wars
