has anyone tried splitting the 'farm' into two areas and having two sets of ants that'll only know about the others once they've dug a bit?
spray paint both sets different colours and see if ants are racist ; )

Anybody want my antworks for 9 quid + p&P. It's just got my threee holes in it. Famished you could use your second load of ants in it.
Why don't you want it anymore? Seems a shame really mine are doing really well now and I am selling my other batch. Oh and anyone that bookmarked my streaming antcam is won't work as my IP has changed you can click on my current link in my sig until I get dynamicDNS sorted out, then you can bookmark the link.
Think i may get 3 of these instead, u can daisy-chain them up!
Is descrbed like this:

Whatever really... you would have to drop some food in now and again for them - little bit of fruit, some sugar, a spider.... few crumbs from the chopping board in the kitchen... don't think they're too fussy

They will do something you just have to give them time, dont forget this antworks last for a good couple of months we have all had it for less than a week!
Make sure you have made enough holes alreay and think about putting in a few more to get them started.
wow i think them ants are bloody cool. Might get myself some of those!
Soon as I can be arsed I've just gonna start over fresh. Chuck out the old ants (what's left of them), clean out the vaseline and put better layer odf it down that might do a better job of stopping them climbing out, and then I'll get a queen during flying ant season and see what happens.
Top marks for this thread. Trawled through all 27 pages of it !! Keep the pics coming in guys
I've got a new digital camera comming tomorrow so will take some more pictures with that.
I opened the lid for 2 seconds so I could get a dead ant out and 4 or 5 got out. I had to leave the dead ant where it was to deal with the escapees.
If it was 5 then one got away but if it was 4 then I gathered them all up and put them in my ant collecting container. I then opened the lid when no ants were near it to get one back in and 2 more got out.
Every time I opened the lid one or 2 made an attempt to get out so I had to formulate a plan.
The Plan
1. Loosen the top enough so the ants could not get out but I could easily open a little quickly.
2. Turn the antworks so that the end away from my opening end was closer to the light. (Keeps most of the ants at the other end.)
3. Put an ant on the ant pocker.
4. Hold the ant pocker with 2 fingers at the end then swap ends as the ent approached the fingers.
5. When ready and no ants were near the entrance wait for and to go towards the end of the pocker near the entrance.
6. Make a gap about 2mm high at the end of the ant works.
7. Let ant climb onto the edge of the antworks next to the entrance.
8. BLOW THE BUGGER IN
9. Close the lid!
10. Repeat until all ants are in
Once perfected I got them all in within a few minutes.
There appear too be 2 dead ants in the tunnels . I'm not sure if they are though as earlier I thought one was dead and it turned out to be fine. Well vanished, so I assumed it got up. They have been tucked into their corners for a while though. I hope they are just sleeping.

Hahahaha, nice work mate! I like your style.
It took me 15-20 minutes of trying other ways first and not getting a single ant in.

I just put them all on a plate from that blue piece of paper you get in the pot and then tipped them in, one went behind the gas fire but I doubt she is still alive. I have sold my second batch of black ants so will only be using the yellow ones.
Oh no just noticed an ant of the top with two legs missing, looks like he is in pain! What should I do, make it quick and painless or let him be?
