    Update

    Have been out all evening and just got in. I turned on the light and did a few things. After taking a look at the antworks I noticed that they had made quite a bit of progress. When turning my computer on I noticed an ant next to it!

    I took a look at the antworks and one of my post-it note covers was not covering the hole properly. I'm not sure how many ants got out but found 2 and one got out while I was putting the first 2 back in. The problem is that it is in the keyboard and every key press is like a game of Russian roulette!

    Think I got her?

    I have never had that problem with ants trying to get out of the top, yours must be more hyper than mine.

    Just to let you know before I pressed every key it was out.

    Mine seem to get out almost instantly. I opened it for about 3 seconds once and one came out.

    Yeah mate, mine go mental if they get disturbed in any way. When I used to have them on my computer desk they even reacted to music with a lot of bass, it made them go nuts!

    Sunlight does it too, gives them LOADS of energy, they keep running about like crazy. Also, I swear they come up to the sides of the ant farm if I get close enough. I was trying to take a pic using that little round magnifying glass you get (you know, the really small one) and I had 4 of them following it along the sides, lol!

    Ironically, since the great vaseline tragedy wiped out half the population of Antsville, they seem to have made quite a bit of progress. I've now got 3 tunnels branching off one shaft, all towards the side of the farm that gets the light from the window, haha.

    It's really cool watching them burrow along the sides.

    QVC are selling Ultrasonic Pest Repellers With Night Light
    I wonder, would the ants:
    A) be attracted to the light;
    B) be repelled by the ultrasonic sound;
    C) develop a neurosis?

    Who remembers Ant Attack on the Spectrum?
    It had a level called Skaz Yandor.
    Which was obviously a homage to Rodnay Zaks, author of the 2 best books of all time: Programming the 6502, and Programming the Z80.

    DaGuvna - My ants hate sunlight. They sit in a corner.

    Music gets them crazy though.

    go for tunes that are full of base, my Dr Dre albums normally help, also I now put them in front of the window every morning to charge them up with energy.

    I keep finding ants that got out last night... Normally climbing up my leg! Ithink a few got out while I was out rather than when I turned the light on!

    Got my ants today (Cheers Famished), what a hassle getting them all into the container without them climbing out. I'm sure famished gave me his trouble makers, a few got out through the air holes, buggers!

    Is it safe to block them up until they start digging? Do they need complete darkness or just not sat next to the window? Any tips on how to get them digging faster?

    Yep

    This is what the manual says about them.

    Also leaf cutter ants are a bad idea.

    I want some army ants though.
