If you are having trouble controling them, I read that if you put them in a fridge for 10mins this will make them 'go to sleep', they then quickly awaken when warmed up again - so you have to be quick!
Cool or what!
Stick 'em in with the beer!

Dam that is one tidy fridge, oh no sorry, empty! Where the hell is all the food? At least it has beer tho, but nothing to go with the beer!
Haha, that's a good tip.
I also found out that if you rub vaseline around the edges at the top of the ant farm they get stuck to it so they can't escape without you seeing - makes life much easier, as the little gits can climb through the air holes at the top, and as soon as one finds the exit, the rest follow!

Haha, sounds like you guys are turning your farms into ant concentration camps! "putting them in fridges", and "sticking them in vaseline"! Poor little things!
Ant
managed to get 20ish ants earlier ,and already have 3 dead as they appeared to have got stuck in the tunnels, guess i made them to thin the first time
they've all been sat in a corner for the last few hours doing nothing
Lol, yeah! I had better make myself invisble before I get chucked into a tub of blue gel!Originally Posted by ajbrun

they will do for the first day or so.Originally Posted by da_ging
Mine did for a while but only because they were attracted to the light from my monitor. I've moved the farm now and they're wandering about happily.
They're still trying to get out through those bloody air holes though, I'm not sure what to do about it. I stuck a some tape over them and then made a few pin pricks in it so some air would still get through, but they're really having a good go at chewing through it :S
EDIT: I don't believe this! I've just noticed that the little blighters are actually chewing through the rubber seal that runs all around the edge of the lid! A whole tub of perfectly good blue goop to muck about withm, and they choose to chew through the only thing keeping them in! Grrrr

Lol well they are intelligent little blighters
Hopefully my harvester ants will fare better and will do as they are supposed to, i have angled some of the holes i have made to see if it makes their hole digging more interesting, what i didnt try though was try and create a hole right next to the plastic side.
da.Guvna, you used normal back yard ants didnt you?! maybe they are just seeking revenge! lol

Yeah, my mate is finding it hilarious that I'm being outwitted by ants.

my garden ants are also doing that, that said there was a small amount of proper tunneling earlier by a lone antEDIT: I don't believe this!
