    @ Legin76

i currently have 3 dead ants which i am not going to remove cause i know they will all escape ,what im planning on doing is letting all of my current ants go and then creating a more user friendly lid with some spare acrylic sheet i have , namely making sure it has a hatch of some sort in the middle for all easy access

Famished just let the ant be, it will be more bother than its worth removing it unless your ants dont try and escape

I'm reminded of a Monty Python sketch of a documentary on ants.
The narrator starts "Ants, for their size, are the strongest creatures on the planet."
He then proceeds to pull its legs off, and says "Haha, we're not so tough now, are we, Mister Ant!"

Sick jokes aside, can the ant move about OK? If so I'd let it live.

that is pubic hair in your tank. I agree with oyu famished... ants should be taught lessons if they try to escape (I woudn't if I'd paid for mine).

    Update

Well my ants had slowed down work quite a bit so I decided to get a few more.

I still have not managed to find the nest but gathered about 10 more ants.

There still appear to be 2 dead ants in the tunnels but now I've put the lid back on they are full of live ants.

I also managed to remove the dead ant from the top and used the end of a cotton bud with the cotton wool removed to make the least touched tunnel deeper. This seems to have got them working more in that tunnel.. YAY.

The new camera has not arrived yet but I'll take some pictures as soon as it arrives.
