P5K Deluxe Wifi AP Thread.

Just ordered my P5K (along with other goodies ), can't wait for it to arrive.

Yup same, here, just ordered a whole brand new system from Scan last night including the P5K deluxe Cant wait! Seeing as this is my first proper system and I have never overclocked before, Hardforum's comment that "Simply put overclocking this board is child’s play" really has put my mind at ease that I have made the right decision

Ones thing's for sure, you're going to see one hell of an improvement over the system you've currently got What CPU, RAM and gfx are you guys going to use with your shiney new P5K?

One thing there mate...

You might want to get a non-yate loon fan for the Thermalright Ultra, a couple of people have said that they work better with a more powerful fan.

Otherwise, looks like an excellent setup

Im looking to make the system as quiet as possible because when I go to uni I'm going to be sleeping right next to it hence buying the Yate's and the fan controllers. I'm going to see what the temps are with the Yate on the Ultra-120 first because if they are slightly high but still reasonable, I would prefer the quieter computer rather than the slightly lower temps.

Think I will just see how everything is first and make a decision once I have it all up and running

Btw Clunk thanks for the help you have me with the ram choice before, few days ago. Unforunately they were out of stock of the Tracers so just went for the normal Ballistix ram in the end

If not using a fan controlledr this works very well at low rpm for silence + all the power you want on load Silverstone SST-FM121B t6yhe only disadvantage is they don't have a std small 4pin fan connector.

Interesting development for maximising bandwidth:-

using 0311 bios 9x400@2:3=1200 5,5,5,12,3,30,3,3,3 vd=2.3 vc=1.525v
looked at transaction booster earlier in this thread, but i don'yt think we looked at Dram Static Read Control.

comparing them:-

1) Transaction Booster = Enabled Left=boost level=0 Right =Boost Level=1


I can't post with transaction booster enabled & Dram static read control Enabled so following is with transaction booster=Auto



So i think i'll stick with Dram static read control Enabled

I was reading about something similar the other day where they were saying that there isnt a strap change at 500FSB, and they went on to say about enabling the Dram static read control to squeeze the last bit of bandwidth out of it, but it wasnt stable...I'll see if I can find the linky.

by comparison i think i can say Dram static read control Enabled gives a damn big chunk

SuperPi Results:-

1) Transaction Booster=1 Dram Static Read Control=Disabled
Previously my best results at this clock from left 1st 2 superPi = concurrent run, right = single run.



1) Transaction Booster Auto, Dram Static Read Control=Enabled
15.53 Seconds off above on single run ain't to shabby

Interestingly enough the results above correspond pretty well with the performance seen in bios 0404.

But
Trying to run orthos like 0404 it just isn't stable, managed all of 3minutes

So my 24/7 clock stays as is, but there's another bit of learning if you want to push those benches

I'm having a headache here.
With the 0123 BIOS the whole system works fine and perfect.
When using BIOS 0404 sometimes it will boot up fine. Other times it will look like it has booted but with no display on my monitor. Sometimes it boots and gives me an "overclocking failed" message.
I have tried leaving all of my BIOS settings as default and also tried setting the BIOS manually to the correct voltages and everything, but no matter what I try I sometimes stilll get the blank screen at boot and 'overclocking failed' messages.

Ive reflashed back to 0123 and everything works fine again, then reflashed to 0404 and i start getting blank video outputs and "overclocking failed" messages again.

However, when running each of the ram modules individually in the board everything works perfect again and always boots correctly. Ive ran Memtest86+ 1.70 for 9 hours and both memory modules are completely error free.

After searching google it seems that I am not alone. It seems that it is mist common with Corsair Ballistix memory.

Does anybody else have this problem?

There are about 4 threads on the asus forums about this exact same problem but the most useful thread I found was on Hardforum:

I can't see a 0123 BIOS , what board are we talking about
the most stable for the p5k deluxe is the 0311 Official Asus Bios for p5k deluxe

1) what slots are you using the black seem to give more stable results better clocks especially with micron chips.
2) try 0311

The 0123 BIOS was the first ever BIOS released for the P5k. You cannot download it from the Asus site, but there is a copy of the BIOS file on the CD that comes with the mobo.

I have tried both the black and yellow slots and getting the problems with both.

I am just ging to try the 0311 now and will update asap.

Yes I tried what XtremeTiramisu exactly the same step by step as he did but it didnt work for me, still getting the blank video boots and Ocing failed messages.

have you tried clearing cmos & then reflahing the bios again. It's not unknown to have the dmi pool cotrrupted & have that cause issues.

the other week i had some issues when i 1st flaherd to 0404. turned off my oc & reflash worked , if it hadn't next step was clear cmos.

How do you guys manage such high overclocks at such low voltage? I keep trying to keep low voltages but it doesn't boot (I set to auto and it boots fine).

Edit: Ahh, I see the BIOS is to blame... Any recommendations?
