Nice 2 see asus bandwidth as crappy as usual.

The best bit of advice I can give you is to avoid onboard RAID like the plauge,
There's nothing wrong with onboard raid, just doin't expect enterprise features. Have been running raid with the ICH8R & matrix raid manager, am sure that ICH9R will offer a little more.

By all means, I'm fully aware I won't get enterprise performance from a built-in controller. That's why I've also got an LSI Megaraid SAS controller to stick on whatever board I end up with. I'd still like to use the built-in for raid 5 though, since performance doesn't matter at all, only redundancy.

Thanks for the link Clunk, you're now officially in my prayers I guess. :-) It seems, if the manual is to be believed, that Intel has scaled down on features, rather than added new ones. Only raid 0 and 1 modes are mentioned..... Bummer, bummer, bummer.

Guess it's a case of buying all the drives I'll need for the foreseeable future right away then. Annoying, but there you go eh? Considering all the issuse people seem to be having with the 680i boards, I simply don't dare go that route.

Thanks for the input and the help folks, very much appreciated.

I'll be running XP 64, which ought to be ok as it's built on Server 2003 SP1. Used to run Server 2003 until I got a corrupted registry, at which time I decided to give Vista a try just to see how it is. Not the best idea I've ever had really. Worst OS since the first version of Win98 in my opinion. Bluescreens and hard freezes galore, sub-standard performance in apps and games, you name it. I'll leave it 'till SP2 comes along I think.

Ah, ok then. Well, never mind - I can't see it supporting array expansion anyway I guess, so it doesn't really matter any longer. I think I'll stay safe(ish) and opt for the P5B Dlx WiFi. Just hope it'll accept 4x2GB ram....

But it says it has ICH8R or am I missing something? Are u pointing at the IDE, which says it can be configured to run in Raid? Asus always seem to explain so poorly, I think the guys at Asus write it in chinese and then some poor dood has to try interpret that into some funky english, loosing the real meaning of stuff.

I would hang on and see, it doesnt make sense for them to drop it, when the p35 is the successor to the 965.
