What are the Telewest ones like though when the throttling kicks in at peaks times?

    1Mb Down
    0.15Mb Up
    On Speedtest.net

    0.3Mb Down
    0.2Mb Up
    On Thinkbroadband

I've been hit by Virgin's dracionian policy over the last few days.

Last week I built a new PC and downloaded all the MS updates.
    I've spent some time surfing.
    I've done some XBox gaming.
Then 2 nights ago while continuing to set-up my PC I watched the Superbikes on the BBC online followed by 2 programs on Five's on-demand service.

Since then I've been capped when I most want my connection.
XBox Live! becomes unplayable IF you can get a game started.
Surfing is mostly slower than a dial-up modem

I could not give a monkeys if Virgin want to roll out 50Mb connections as they're a complete waste of time if you're only able to use them for 1 day a month.

I pay EXTRA for an unlimited 4Mb connection.
4Mb is more than enough for my needs, I am generally patient and can wait for a 1Gb WOW update to take an hour.
However if they don't lift the cap I will happily pay BT £124.50 to put a phone line to my house and go back to having a choice over which terms and conditions contract to accept.

Lucky you, my 20mb line drops to 300kb/s sometimes even less during peak times. Virgin Media suck bring back Telewest anyday, I'm seriously thinking of changing ISP's.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

I get about 1.5Mbps down and 0.3Mbps up. On ADSL and about 2 miles as the crow flies from the exchange. Good enough for the moment, but not great.

    Virgin Media are awful.

Not impressed. And they never delivered the free router I was supposed to get. When I can get through to their damned phoneline I'll give them a piece of my mind

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

I'm with UK Online's legacy 24 meg down 1 meg up package, on fastpath with a 3dB target SNR.
    Stats:

    Code:
    DSL Status: UP
    DSL Modulation Mode: Auto
    DSL Path Mode: FAST
    Downstream Rate: 21683 Kbps
    Upstream Rate: 1023 Kbps
    Downstream Margin: 3 db
    Upstream Margin: 10 db
    Downstream Line Attenuation: 22
    Upstream Line Attenuation: 12
    Downstream Transmit Power: 22
    Upstream Transmit Power: 12
    LOS Errors: 0
Throughput is usually 2.2 to 2.3 MB/sec from reliable servers (Usenet, Gamershell, my hosting company etc) and speedtests are there or thereabouts:

Can't really argue for £24, especially when I'm using >400GB of bandwidth every month and there are no restrictions on ports, no throttling or 'traffic management' etc. Just full speed, 24/7
