I'm on Virgin, paying £35 a month for a choppy service with my own router (they never gave me one when they took over telewest)
Too many troubles for my liking but my old man cba to change... shame. Who's best atm?

mines pretty laughable, im currently on a 1mbps BT connection which is soon to be updated (in the next month or so) to the 8mbps version i cant complain though i get nearly the speeds that are advertised. Next year my area is next in development for the 2010 CN project by BT so i should see a dramatic improvement from the service im getting now.

Supposed to be Virgin 10mb. They seem to be very temperamental lately.
is not a fast as normal as housemates are all in! usually 13000 down 1300 up
Here is my stats only been with BE* a week now had no issues yet
BE* unlimited
Bitrate (Up/Down) [kbit/s]: 1,313 / 24,574
Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 4.1 / 9.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.1 / 6.4
I'm on Be Unlimited, and tend to get
Down: 8000 - 9000 kbps
Up: 1150 - 1200 kbps
But the best part is that the speed is never throttled - I get the full whack even at 8:00pm when I used to struggle to get 512kbps down on Eclipse.
Virgin 4mbit solid 480k all day all night unless STM kicks in used to have 20mbit and was throttled during the day but 4mbit is fine no lag in games either great 20ping.
Speedtest.net pings are always high - that's their servers' fault rather than your ISPs. Try a ping to bbc.co.uk and post back the results. In Windows, you'll need to run cmd.exe... Hold the Windows key - which is next to CTRL usually - and then press the R key. In the box that pops up write cmd.exe and press enter. Then type
and then copy the result here or screenshot it. In Linux it'sCode:ping bbc.co.uk
but I don't know about Macs, sorry.Code:ping -c 4 bbc.co.uk
Depending what Sky package you're on, you're likely on a high interleave depth and delay. Sky defaults to 32 or even 64, and the higher the number the higher your pings as a rule. You'd need to speak to Customer Solutions (tier 3) and ask them to drop your ID to 16, or even 8 if your line can handle it.
LOL the box pops up and does its thing before i get a chance to read it !
Our contention ratio is crap too but i'll give them a ring anyway, bring on the Indian call centre
