Very similar to my results except the ping rate. Virgin are ok as long as you never need to contact them ... How's the wireless signal/range with your superhub? Mine is absolutely rubbish so i bought a cheap separate dual band router (Belkin Play Max N600) and now it's perfect! I can now run multiple machines on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands at the same time and all with 300Mbps wireless link speeds (i could only achieve 130Mbps max with the Virgin superhub).... The wireless signal range has increased substantially too!

I'm actually getting better bandwidth going to one of the Dutch servers, but the best ping is one of the London servers:

My brother is with TalkTalk and he loves it! He's a heavy downloader and never seems to get capped, whereas i consider myself an average user (don't download much) and Virgin seem to cap me all the time!... Other times i just need to reboot their pooperhub. I'm thinking about ditching Virgin and trying out TalkTalk... You get far better upload speeds them too .

This is what i'm getting right this minute with my supposedly 30Mb service:

I wouldn't even call this peak time either... Suppose i either need to reboot the pooperhub or they've capped me again for no apparent reason (unless it's another technical fault in the area).

After having decent broadband via VM, I'm on holiday at my mum's house up in the mountains and have just managed to finally get ADSL

Not the fastest or most responsive LOL but for simple net access, it will have to do

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

there is a number of settings you can check in the hub web interface i had to alter things in my tplink router on bt infinity find out from virgin what your settings are things like MTU (maximum transmission unit)

The Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU) is the largest size of IP datagram which may be transferred using a specific data link connection The MTU value is a design parameter of a LAN and is a mutually agreed value (i.e. both ends of a link agree to use the same specific value) for most WAN links.

The size of MTU may vary greatly between different links (e.g. typically from 128 B up to 10 kB).The prevalent Path MTU on the Internet is now 1500 bytes, the Ethernet MTU. There are some initiatives to support larger MTUs in networks (e.g. 8 KB), in particular on research networks. But their usability is hampered by last-mile deployment of Ethernet with an MTU of 1500 and lack of robustness of Path MTU Discovery. This lead to a more robust method being defined in [RFC4821].

The transport layer (TCP or UDP) is unaware of the particular path taken by an IP packet as it travels through a network. It therefore does not know what size of IP packet to generate. Too small a packet may be inefficient (i.e. there may be little data compared to lots of header), a larger packet is therefore more efficient. Too large an IP packet may exceed the MTU of the links over which the packet may be sent, causing fragmentation.

    MTU Ping Test http://goo.gl/K4xz9
A series of ping tests using the command, ping www.expedient.net -f -l xxxx, where xxxx is the packet size, can be used to determine the optimal MTU for your connection.
you need to open a elevated cmd promt and be in administrator
press windows key+R on the keyboard
type cmd in the run box
    click ok
type in ping www.expedient.net -f -l 1492 and hit the Enter key

Note the results above indicate that the packet needs to be fragmented. Lower the size the packet in increments of +/-10 (e.g. 1472, 1462, 1440, 1400) until you have a packet size that does not fragment.

Begin increasing the packet size from this number in small increments until you find the largest size that does not fragment. Add 28 to that number (IP/ICMP headers) to get the optimal MTU setting. For example, if the largest packet size from ping tests is 1462, add 28 to 1462 to get a total of 1490 which is the optimal MTU setting.
Change the MTU setting in the hub

Sky, been with them for about a month. It's not great, but it's better than Plusnet who I was with previously. Also, Plusnet love to monitor your downloads and impose cruel fines for exceeding your (stingy) allowance, avoid them at all costs.

I was with Talk-talk before Plusnet and Talk-Talk never, ever charged me for exceeding my usage allowance and I was with them for 2 years.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

    I have a question...

In the many years I have lived at my current address, I have never been able to download any file/s faster than about 1.5 Mb/s, despite having 19Mb download speed with BEthere and a fixed ip I can never get good download speed.

Why is that? Can it be fixed? Why does a 13Mb download speed equate to 1.5 Mb in reality? Where is this 13 Mb speed that Speedtest tells me I have?
