Re: Your broadband speed - post here

I have a TalkTalk 12MB/s connection which costs £3 a month that I registered for a long time ago and I have not changed contract so the price has not increased since about 2006.
This test was ran at a non-peak time.
    I got 4 MB/s download and 0.7 MB/s upload
I am supposed to get 12 yet I only get 4 at max.

120mb+ virgin media, newcastle upon tyne. Upload is capped at around 10mb, but i rarely upload anything to the net tbh. Always had great speeds, even at peak times, with no noticeable slow down.

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

I really don't see why people pay so much for such fast speeds, my 8.24 connection is more than enough for video streaming etc and downloads are more than fast enough (maybe I am just more patient than many).

Fair enough there is only 2 of us here so can see if I had teenagers in the house there might be more needed but still I couldn't justify some the speeds (and the related costs).

Got a new fibre cab about a year ago. Signed up for Infinity 2. Should get upto 76mb

My poor upload is due to the AVHomeplug setup I use (I reckon). Wireless gives me about 9-11mb upload.

2.2Mb - BT Internet - Longstanton - Cambridgeshire. Not fast enough. Although that is 1Mb more than Talk Talk were giving us at the same location.

I live in Wales at weekends and we are still on dial up !
Its so bad that the Welsh government will fund a satellite installation for broadband as long as we can pay the running costs.
Even Terrestrial TV is impossible without satellite so consider yourself now out of the dark ages and into the light.Comparatively speaking :-)

I'm trying full fat infinity at the moment.
Won't showboat by posting my speedtest.
I'm about 50ft from a green cabinet so I get more than advertised!

If that IS the Homeplug setup that's throttling the upload then I'd suggest you get a new one. I just ran a quick test using my Linux box and got this.

Now that system is connected via a cheap gigabit switch to a pair of Devolo "650" plugs - once I get a chance I'll try from the Windows box, since that's using the older "AVsmart+" plugs - but I'd still expect to get 4-6Mb/s. As the link says, I'm on Virgin Media - their XXL service, so I'm slightly annoyed to only be getting about 50% of "headline" speed".

By the way, why is the date stamp etc on your test shown Pacific Daylight savings Time (PDT) rather than GMT?

Career status: still enjoying my new career in DevOps, but it's keeping me busy...

We have Virgin 120Meg, waiting for the upgrade to 152 at the moment.
    Got this the other day.

OR NOT. Anyway shows 123 odd meg.

For some reason I cannot paste the image off the Speedtest website.

Those are some nice speed you guys have. I've got plusnet fibre used to be getting max speed till i encounters some problems. Now days i get near max speed i think and for some reason my plusnet internet is showing up as another
isp. which is due to plusnet stuff.
