Get around 90Mb/s on my 100Mb Virgin line through my cheap 100Mb switch.. direct I can get nearly 110!

So I'll take that I'll add a wired test at some point in the future for reference

s'alright, I suppose. Just wish it didn't have the random dropouts on a morning (it's annoying trying to watch the news on iPlayer when it drops a chunk of packets between 6 and 8 in the morning, but seems to be fine the rest of the time)

on 100mb, interesting that the server furthest away (London) gives me the highest speed and the closest gives me the slowest speed

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

My wife's laptop keeps having inexplicable wireless network dropouts, so tonight I'm using it, via a WTG Win 8 USB stick to check against software problems, and decided to do a speedtest check while I was online anyway.

So, when it connects properly there's nothing wrong with the WiFi

Re: Your broadband speed - post here

Running it on my linode is funny. I think when you get over 2Gbit/s, it kind of falls over and doesn't give a result - the png graphic is empty!
    Code:
    tfboy@localhost:~$ ./speedtest-cli --server 6032 --share
    Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
    Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
    Testing from Linode (x.x.x.x)...
Hosted by fdcservers.net (London) [2.52 km]: 3.257 ms
    Testing download speed........................................
    Download: 2204.83 Mbit/s
    Testing upload speed..................................................
    Upload: 383.80 Mbit/s
    Share results: https://www.speedtest.net/result/0.png

When it goes under 2Gbit/s, it's OK
    Code:
    tfboy@localhost:~$ ./speedtest-cli --server 6032 --share
    Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
    Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
    Testing from Linode (x.x.x.x)...

However, it's clearly not always your ISP that's the bottleneck. Some servers on speedtest are criminally slow! For example:

PlusNet Fibre 40/20 unlimited. Tested on PC wired to router. Stock PlusNet router.

    That's where I'm living now....a village.

The result below is in Sheffield, a decent suburb where I can't get fibre...go figure

I get 74mbs down and 16mbs up on Plusnet Fibre (VDSL via BT). It is much faster than my Virgin media connection (Shaping etc)
