Hello Houston Tranquility base here........The eagle has landed.

Just installing xp on raid while we speak. I think its probably the classiest mobo package i've had. Got a 6600 to go with it. Removed heatpipes & tried to fit after market active cooling Got nb done using an old dfi nf4 cooler. (evercool was to big intefered with capacitors. Fitted a Swiftech tio s/bridge thoughy job was great until i found it block my double slot 1900xt. so gone back to heatpipes, at least they are well pasted now.

Booted up 1st time so worries re memory voltage unfounded . Bios seems very strange & will take some getting used 2 after so much time with Mvidia.

Plan is to get xp on & get temp tracking software on i'll see what temps i get on load. Then will stand case up & check temps, with mobo in it's normal inverted position. If no dice i'll need to look for a low profile cooler 4 s/bridge.

The package looks very impressibe & includes the game.

More soon format should be done.
    Luck

Oh Yes . Just interested to find outt how the heatpipes work. Windows installed great. Formatting the 2 other partitions on my raid, 1 4 Vista RC2 32 the other for 64. Just been checking that cores were detected correctly they were.

I'm posting from my wife's pc atm will be upto speed on mine shortly with the rest of the drivers.

Plugged in my other drives after installing onraid, all detected fine. So far everything is a breeze

Don't get too exited about the "full" 3mark06. I thought i'd give it a go b4 turning in. Turns out it's an "old" version that can be patched 4 $19.95, to the current 1, which is needless to say they only 1 u can post online. So basically may as well sticjk with tthe free version.

Anyway i got 5782 at stock, not tweaked a thing compared to around 5200 ish i got on opteron running 2.95 & 1900xt oced. temps are looking pretty good atm were around 40~42 CPU & 30~31 System during 3dmark test switches. around 30~34C on idle pretty much same as my opty.

Edit: 13:30 - Things are progressing. Tested heatpipes inverted ie my case standing in normal position. No change in system temps.running orthos for around 10min (uses both cores) cpu maxws at 53C with system @28C
Have found confirmation that the mobo fan headers can take a max of 7A p2-31 manual. this is far more than the average 2A available on other boards . It means my fan controller is going. things can be monitored in xp fron asus Q-fan 5.27 manual, abd in bios from hardware monitor section see 4.5.6 of manual. Only item imo asus should have supplied are the thermal sensor cables. Fortunately i have 3 i can use from my current controller.

Edit2: Now this is amusing just read the clabel of the Commando DVD Says "Nvidia Nforce 680i SLI DVD Rev.291.01" Oops

I read somewhere that the Commando is the only (or one of) heatpiped MB that can be used OK the wrong way round..... can't find it now

i got confirmation from abit.evga but nothinhg from asus, hence my paranoia. but am very happy now as imo they look good as well. But when i start ocing & need to up the nb voltage, that's whe the real test will come.

Have got rid of fan controller & am using mobo but am only getting readings from 1 of 4 fans so a bit of work still todo. I'm still trying to work out the reason the cpu fan header has 4 pins, I think it's 4 a pwm fan, not sure.

what cooler did u order ??, i'd ask them to ship the mobo only!!

    arctic cooler 7 pro
lol!! thought they were plentiful, it's abummer it's held up your mobo.

Have just finished getting all my fans sorted & running on the mobo controlled from the 3 temp sensors. Sensors atm are on NB, Gfx heatsinks & memory. Have been using 120mm Silverstone FM121's which i'd modded to 3pin. Had been running these in my fan controller & manually adjusting using the fan controller knobs. However on the mobo the fans work but no rpm read. Found a great fix , put some old jumpers in the plug that normally has the supplied fan control - sorted.

Only thing outstanding re cooling now is a cpu fan with 4 pin which i think is PWM capable Ideally would like to get a high power fan that utilises this socket. to enable Q-Fan CPU control.Could put fan on another header but it wouldn't be using cpu temp for control. See Intel 3-Pin and 4-Pin Fan Connector 4 more info on the header. Only thing is can't find any. All fans showing 4 pin i think refer to the std molex plugs. I think this socket is 4 pwm (pulse width modulating) fans.

    hey supershanks,

im thinking about getting that same mobo and ram combo as you...

Was just wondering if everything booted fine first time? And you didnt need to boot up with other ram to change the voltage or update bios etc?

Go for it! The mobo just screams quality, I haven't had a chance to use it yet because somebody stole my cooler and I haven't got my RAM yet , I am going for the team memory pc2 6400 cas 4 stuff. Go for it!

ps commando owners have you noticed that the commando was meant to be the name for the nForce 680i board! It says so on the cd, for a second I though I had a striker extreme!
