Mine is getting really hot too, but even more so
70 under stress test!! that is toasty
If your running 3k have you locked down your pci-e & PCI speeds. Bios - Extreme Tweaker - Pci-e frequency = 101~102
Pci clock synch = 33.33
may impact your sound issue
I have had it on stock everything and the sound card still didn't
play ball so I don't know
I just want to add how fun this is on the asus commando.
Oh yesI just want to add how fun this is on the asus commando.
I can feel some watercooling on the horizon
- yep , hope the wife will chip in - it will let her watch the soaps in peaceI can feel some watercooling on the horizon
How is this going? 4ghz yet
Hey,
Just wondering what the general impression of this board is? Any major bugs or niggles? And how does it stack up to other boards?
It's on the short list of boards for my summer upgrade, but the lack of PCI-E x1 slots is a bit pooey...
Cheers,
Suman
Hexus review up today for those who only use the forums (FOOLS!).
I know reviews can only tell you so much, though no doubt this will be one of the better ones. Reading it slowly around various jobs at the moment.
I didn’t know this old thread was still going
anyway I have had a play with a ds4 for a few days and it has made me wanting the commando back. Because it's just better rally. The BIOS is very good I got 3.2hgz on my e6300I think, the only prob was that the temps were too high.
I noticed that supershanks hadnt posted for a while, was wondering if he caved in and bought the dfi instead, I know he likes dfi
Not quiteHow is this going? 4ghz yet
Is right, wife has had an op a week ago so i've been playing nurse & doing a few more choresOr it is his turn to do the washing up!
Have had problems with the mobo which resulted in an rma yesterday. Scan did a great job & i rebuilt last night.
The issue was a deterioration over a day or so from a fairly stable setting (2hr Orthos stable) to a virtually unbootable wreck. Have been troubleshooting on & off this last week.
Tried install on single hd instead of raid, starting with known stable settings (stock, 9x300 & 9x334), t6he same symtoms always recurred, only a cmos clear (battery removed) would fix it. Bios defaults weren't always loading correctly , Kb lock ups in bios + Artifacts (bottom right )
New build is better Windows Memtestthough still not fully stable(lost an earlier wip post to a bsod ) so am working on it.
I found this Forumz -Core2Duo Overclocking Guide helpfulhad adopted most of the CPU settings thanks to Clunk's advise, but have adopted the rest now, i wonder if any of my earlier instability has been down to using q-fan extensively.Tidying Up Your BIOS
I'm still very pleased with this board, it feels like the DFI Ultra4 diid when i got that. Very overclockable, great design etc., Only thing that i might have swapped it 4 would have been the Abit QuadGT if scan had have had it yesterday, but that would have been a hard choice.
There are several threads i've been watching which give me a lot of confidence in this board:-
1) Asus Commando Test Results - my own favourite as he's using same memory & cpu as me
2) Extreme Systems - Asus Commando mjh74 & Cyko72's clocks
3) Commando Results by Tony and Andre (and others...) see last few pages
2 & 3 are fairly rambling threads, maybe cos i posted but there are some good results there.
Am currently running with Commando Release BIOS 0801 (BETA).
I repasted the heatpipes again Default heatpipe paste this build. Have seen worse coverage
Reversed my cooling will give this a try.
120mm will blow into zalman from rear
CPU exausts over memory & frontwards
Oh well going to make tea
Luck
The northbridge lack of contact is quite worrying, ive had 2 x p5b like that and a p5wdh, I do beleive that that was the cause of death on the p5wdh.
Lets hope the replacement board is a good one then
edit: heres the contact from one of mine - shoddy.

Yes it's common though to all mobos, i repaste every time i get a new board now.heres the contact from one of mine - shoddy
These can get pretty hot:-
Jaffa(Link above 1) Asus Commando Test Results post#2so it's worth checking out.Have acting cooling i can fit to nb but haven't seen anything that is low profile & fits the sb, there are a couple of caps that make it awkward. While running my tests I used my digital thermal probe thingy to get the temps of each part of the NB/SB/PWM cooler. I put the sensor right inside each of the heatsink and took a reading for each area.
Under load these are the temps I found:-
Soutbridge heatsink - 48c
Northbridge heatsink - 48c
PWM heatsink - 53c
Obviously that PWM heatsink is getting a tad toasty without the optional cooler so I'll be attaching that later on when I shoot for highest clock speeds and what not.
Yes indeedyLets hope the replacement board is a good one then
