Also what ram are you using -speed etc. I am about to build 2 systems for myself built round c2d and am thinking of using an asus p5b -deluxe wifi for one ( or a 'badaxe2) and I would not mind trying the 'asrock' e 4300 combo for the second sys. Got some 'geil 6400 (matched 2g) coming but will probabaly use that with the asus.
Oops, sorry mate, I forgot all about this thread.

I had all sorts of stop errors with the E6600 on the 775Dual-VSTA, but I was trying to use it as a music PC. Don't bother.

I've since put the E4300 on it, with PC2700 DDR RAM, and it's been faultless. No STOPs. I've now put in 2x1GB PC2-6400 GeiL DDR2, and it feels even smoother now. Much less HDD churn when switching applications.

This is probably a bit late now.

Just wanted to add my experiences with my new system. My aim was to build a modestly priced machine, so after reading many reviews and forums (which is how I ended up here), I decided on a E4300 and to overclock it to 3GHz.

    Relevant system parts:

    E4300 with stock cooler.

    Asus P5N-E SLI

    2 X 1GB G.Skill PC6400 RAM

    Sapphire Radeon X1950 Pro

465W Enermax PSU (from existing build)

2 X IDE Hard Drives (also from existing build)

The build went fine and the E4300 is running stable (Orthos Small FTTs overnight) at 3GHz. However, I had to ramp the vcore up to 1.45. Anything below this and it would reboot within 30 minutes on Orthos or most other stress tests. Temps are acceptable at 34 idle and 48 full load, but it's slightly annoying having to increase the vcore so much - especially when other chips can manage the same at stock voltage.

Anyway, despite the high vcore, I'm happy with the system and can definitely recommend the E4300 for overclocking.

Some of us went commando in january, and as a result have ended up with deflated clocks.

Okay, I have increased my FSB by 40mhz. What programs do I need to test the new CPU speed?

Oh yes, it was a bad January too. I bet they were very small clocks. Though you always get a few people boasting about their huge clocks.

I'm confused. I have increased the FSB by 40 to 240 but my CPU is reporting a slower speed? I haven't touched my Ram setting at all.

http://www.overclock.net/downloads/1...v20060420.html Will do you nicely, run it for 15 mins if it's stable, increase again when you think you've found the max, run it overnight and see if everything's good.

and that lower speed is caused by speed step and EIST you can disable them in the bios(usually needed for higher clocks), it'll revert to the higher multi when the system is under load.

I use OCCT Perestroïka to test inintial stability.
Then orthos 4 a longer (usually overnight) test. Gives a decent feel for your temps with graphs if u usre core temp as well.

    Nick,

Heres some old bios shots of mine to get you started.

Start off with something like 300fsb,
set the pcie freq to auto,
dram freq to 600 (youll see this increase as you up the fsb),

Set ALL the cpu stuff to disabled for now.

Manually enter your ram timings (if you havent already), AND the subtimings if you know them....the P5B likes the right subtimings

Looks like we have a result.

There was me thinking that overclocking was hard. I've not got a £99 processor running at 2.7Ghz

    FSB - 300
    DRam freq - 600
Memory timings like the screenshot above.

vcore is looking good as well, but you may find that after a certain point, it jumps sharply, so keep an eye on it

As mentioned above, its really just a case of upping the fsb and then testing (overnight is a good idea). You might have got lucky and got a chip that goes high with not much extra voltage

Just actually noticed it's running the same speed as a E6700 which is £326!

    What is Vcore?

i have a P5B, my ram is apparently CL4-4-4-12, so i would need to set mine to:
    -DRAM CAS# Latency = 4
    -DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay = 4
    -DRAM RAS# Precharge = 4
    -DRAM RAS# Activate to Precharge = 12
    ..correct?

one thing i've noticed is that the P5B doesnt seem to tell me what the default values (like vcore/ram voltage etc) for my e4300 are, if anyone could tell me that would be appreciated.

i've noticed i can hit about 310fsb @ 1.425v fairly stable but cant POST at 334 (no monitor activity) which is my goal, any advice? i've set the RAM to 600mhz i think it was, when the fsb was increased its taken it to about 740iirc.
