First time out playing with my new Christmas present (lens). All taken along Broad street in Reading this afternoon
It's big and heavy and you don't go unnoticed by a long shot! But I love it. A few pics:
So busted with the girl. LOL

That's a scary looking elf.
What time were you taking photos? Also, what lens and camera? (Exif isn't showing)
I was in The Oracle around 3pm but didn't stay long. I really don't like crowds and it was packed.
Yeah, some young kids were curious but scared at the same time!
I was walking around 3. Parked next to the pentahotel on the IDR, but it was only a 30 minute max stay jobbie. Arrived at 2:45 when a rather cute parking officer smiled at me (I have a thing for chicks in uniform ), obviously showing the "I've seen you arrive at 2:45. You now have 30 minutes" look on her face. LOL
Exif is in the photos if you take the extension and replace XL with O. An annoyance with smugmug who only show the exif on original files, not resized ones...
Anyway, to cut to the chase, Nikon D700 with 200mm f/2 VR lens. All shot wide open at f/2, mostly around 1/320s, ISO varying between 200 and 400
edit: and crikey, it was crowded indeed. Not easy to take candids with so many people around, field of view being broken every half second by passers by
edit2: I'm probably going back a bit later for some night shots. Will wait till around 6:30 so I can park on the yellows. If you want to meet up, drop me a pm
Nice though!
No. I don't know if there are many, and I haven't looked to be honest. My working hours and availability are a bit erratic too.
Yup, it's big and heavy, bot not that long. Just so, uhm, how can I say it, girthy
It is indeed. Big, scary investment as I hadn't played around with one before and in a way, it's very particular and you need to have a use for it, but I don't regret it at all. Just need to practice with it.
what will you be using it for primarily if I may ask?
Commissioned candids - if that doesn't sound contradictory
I'm doing more and more family / child shoots, and in certain conditions, it's just nice to have the reach, particularly for the more candid stuff. Using the 85mm f/1.4 for more classic and posed stuff. I had been hesitating between the 200/2 and 300/2.8 and went for the 200 because it's a bit more unique, arguably more flexible because with 1.4 TC, you get near the 300/2.8, oh and it's a grand cheaper!
I'm hoping to find more uses as time goes by
Thanks Blastuk. It is nice. Everybody I know who has this shoots almost exclusively wide open
Another few from last night with a Christmassy theme. I guess if I'm posting today, it's ok?
Taken near the pizza hut on riverside, next to the Xmas sausage hotdog round stall thing (next to chili's)
"Smelly alley"
Snowmannequin. I actually find the expression slightly creepy. Almost has a Donnie Darko quality to it...
little 'carrot' has been with the family for years. The oldest rabbit I know
A quick sunset I grabbed tonight. First time I've been out and back on the forum since getting up to Win 7
Yeah, I should probably work on the sharpening there.
