I forgot I had taken some photos at a wildlife park the other day. I tried to get some shots of my dog jumping a log but they didn't come out very well. I had trouble panning and couldn't get a high enough shutter speed to not worry about panning.

This was about the best I managed.






I'm off to New Zealand tomorrow, so I might get some more photos. I have a netbook this year so I won't be editing and uploading as I go along. Looking at that thread, most of the photos seem rather dark or have too much contrast. The laptop I was using had a bad screen for photos and I did some better editing when I got back. The netbook brings my backpack down from 12kg to 8kg, hence why I bought it! I had a panic leaving Auckland last year when they asked to weigh mum's bulging, 6kg cabin luggage but luckily didn't ask to weigh my 12kg backpack. The limit is 7kg and there was nothing in my bag that I would want to put in main luggage.

I would probably crop closer and bump the contrast on that shot. IMHO the background is quite bright and dominant, so more contrast and a tighter focus might help.

Heh, yeah she was the runt of the litter so she has a few quirky 'features' such as the facial markings and the daft tuft on her head. Would you believe, the little lady is nine years old. Looks and acts like a puppy every day

I brought my tripod out to New Zealand with me but decided I wouldn't have much use for the Sigma 50-500mm. Of course, I went and left the quick release plate on the Sigma, which I didn't bring with me. So now I have a deadweight in my luggage that I can't use for anything. I'm not sure if I could just use any hotshoe.

Yes I know it's another pic of our dog but I'm in the process of trying to scrape together 20-odd decent shots of her to make up a nice photo book to give to the mother in law for her 60th. Nb. this is not her when she was a puppy, this was her 'summer clip'.

A Redsnapper with a ball head. I bought another quick release plate today, although it was a bit pricey. I probably won't even use it. At least now it won't matter if I leave one plate on the lens instead of the camera.

We've had very heavy showers on and off so far, so the sunset photos on Mount Eden I was planning haven't materialised.

I used my tripod.

The weather was bright and sunny this afternoon, so I thought the sunset might be nice. Except it clouded over half an hour before sunset. Then from up Mount Eden I could see sheets of rain coming in all around. It kind of cleared up once it had darkened, and there were only a few spotty patches. There were some uneven hazy patches which showed up in the photos so I might go back another night.

Some guy came up to me in the dark and asked where I sell my photos. I said it was just a hobby, to which he replied "An expensive hobby". I don't really want to discuss how expensive what I'm holding is to a stranger in the dark. I'm sure he was a nice guy with good intentions, and during the day with people around I would have chatted with him, but I tried to avoid a conversation with him.

I'll have to edit this properly when I get home. Some of it needs touching up a bit, like the gap in the clouds on the left which looks like a smudge. I'm surprised my netbook wasn't too bad with it. It wasn't snappy, but it's not like it took half an hour. Converted from CR2 to 1000 x 667 jpegs with Faststone Image Viewer, then stitched together with Microsoft ICE.
