http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/20dd70.htm
yes I've read that too...seems like he favous the D70 over the 20D. personaly I'd wait until the announcemements made later this month about future releases and then go with that accordingly.

I'm quite keen to use IR, and film-wise I know this is possible. digitally it is also possible but requires careful adjustments...

Hello guys!!...
I'm thinking of buying the Canon 20D as soon as I get back to Leeds in April. I'm thinking that I'll first go to Jessops and show them the eBuyer 'quoted' price and get it from them OR order it off Amazon (hella lot more expensive tho )
Mike
Ooops: Um...what announcement and when can I expect it?
the announcemnet was of the 350d/xt which was in feb.
Just so you know Jessops technically don't price match eBuyer, i asked them to they said they couldn't but it made them reveal the lowest they would go.
Well as long as they can beat:

-1150quid.
I'll be happy... Will see how it goes!
Mike
EDIT: Do you guys think I should give the 7dayshop a try? I'm going to try my luck at the Geneva Airport...

they went 1065 for me
So I came back from New York last week. I returned with;
1 x Canon 17-40L + filter + 7 year Mack warranty
1 x Canon 28-135IS USM + filter + 7 year Mack warranty
1 x Canon 50mm f1.8
1 x Canon Timer Remote
1 x 2Gb 80x Lexar CF
1 x Lexar USB2.0 Card Reader
1 x Kata Backpack
Total: about £850
(apologies if sme of the pics look washed out or too bright, they appear okay on my 193P, which is the PC i edit on, and I know they look different on other screens)
Yay...Today went to the Chavan Centre in Bogis Bossey (near Divion, France) and noticed a camera shop. They got the Nikon D70 in the window priced at around 750quid inc lens but I got my heart set on the Canon 20D so I'm gonna go ask them tomorrow if they have it in stock and if I can have one
Now need to go convince mom that I should get this...it's my cash but asian parents are a pain when it comes to things like this....
WOW...
I went to the shop @ the Chevanne Center and the guy tried to rip me off by charging CHF 2588.00 (~ GBP 1150) for only the camera with lens and he didn't even have it in stock.
I then found another store by the name of 'Photo Hall' in town and got the following:
- Canon EOS20D with EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 lens
- Sandisk 1GB Ultra II CF card (wanted an Extreme III but will get to that later)
- Tamrac Zoom Traveler 3
Price: 1170GBP
I ended up calling HSBC UK as their system was rejecting my gold VISA card - to find it was a system problem. After about 15mins they had a tech fix it and yet my card would not be accepted even though it has over 5K sterling credit. My Mom ended up paying for it all
Got it charging now and need to get snapping with it tomorrow!
Next on my list is a decent lens with image stabilization and a Lowepro DryZone 100 that's shown below (fully waterproof!)

Lo there Oakey...
I pretty much spent the morning today getting familiar with the controls of the EOS20D and I'm really liking it...one heck of a camera - makes my Exlim feel so....crap lol
I also want to get the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM - the stock lens does indeed feel a bit *cheap* but I'll live with it for now and grab the other lens when cash permits.
The Extreme III does 20MB/s as apposed to 9 - 10MB/s for the Ultra II. Interestingly, a 1GB CF card isn't going to last me long as well...only around 200 - 240 shots at high (1600) to low (100) ISO settings @ 8MP.
So my to buy list is going to span out as follows over the next few months:
- Lowepro DryZone 100 (April)
- Sandisk 2GB Extreme III CF card (~ 160quid, cheaper on eBay maybe...)
- EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (~ Arm and a leg...)

Those Extreme III's are about £90 in NYC I was going to get one but went with the 80x Lexar instead. For what it's worth, you may as well save up loads of cash and take a trip to B&H in New York and buy all your equipment, I bet the equipment plus costs of going would still come out cheaper than buying everything over in the UK / Europe. Take a look on the previous page at how much I bought for how little. I'm only disappointed I ran out of money or I would have bought a whole lot more. The 17-40L is about £570 alone over here.
