I'd like to try this lens too, it is suppose to be nice and sharp but its quite dear.
May just go try it out its half on my list.

As for CF I'm using the Lexar 1Gb 80x Professional stuff. I can get 235 pics on a card roughly at 8.2mp/

Quick note. I'm in Bern till Monday and I ended up snagging a 2GB Extreme III for quite a bit...couldn't help it and I'll probably be picking up the 17 - 85mm lens on Monday from Photo Hall as well.

Will post back when time permits...

Yo guys! I'm back from my long(ish) trip to Bern, Thun, Interlaken and Möhlen...

Ended up snagging the EF-S 17 - 85mm lens today as well along with a UV filter, clip on cover (so I don't lose it!) and lens cleaning stuff...all for CHF1000

As Murphy said, what ever you buy it is always cheaper somewhere else...but I think compared to England I got a pretty good deal here.

Tom, wasn't there some reason you advised against the 17-85?

Oakey there has been mixed reports on the quality, and to be fair you can get far better lenses for the money 17-40L, Tamron XR Di 28-75 F2.8 etc

the difference is £40 which on a purchase that large makes them pretty much the same price and the tamron is half the price

    Lo guys.

Yesterday to my suprise Tom contacted me over MSN and I'll prolly chat with him a bit today as well - he's a sponge of knowledge heh...

Well, with the 17 - 85mm lens my Tamrac is feeling 'small' so I will probably head to the shop today and they have agreed to swap it for anyother bag of my choice, hopefully the Lowepro DryZone. They currently do not have the EF 50mm f/1.4 USM I'm after and will get 'em to order one in for me.

Need to get about and take some nice pics sometime soon...

Update: Ohh boy...after going to the WHO office to have lunch we left for the shop in town - took us 45mins as we got a *bit* lost..well not really. All the DARN roads in Geneva are usually one way argh...

Anyways got to the shop and swapped the Tamrac for a DryZone 200 - very pleased with this bag, tons of space for loads of lenses, Mmmmmmmm.

What do you guys thinking of purchasing this:

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...e=STRK:MEWA:IT

It ships from Hong Kong and is cheaper than UK (~299quid) and Geneva (~250quid) - eBay price: 183 quid + 30 (p&p) + 14 insurance = 227 quid.

I might just get it here and be done with it tbh...

surely the MkII 50mm is good enough? its fast lens too...
so, new camera eh? going to posting lots of nice pics then...go on, you know you want to

Nikon has just released some news saying that there will be an update of the D70 and a 'budget' dSLR out by the end of the month, no specs released as yet but maybe soon...
lets hope they put a greater ISO range on the D70 update, and fix its under-exposing problems.

I have the 50mm f/1.4. It's a nice sharp piece of kit with good contrast for an non-L bit of glass. The f/1.8 mk2 really shows it's cheapness in comparison..

RE: the ebay sale.. You can pick up a 50-f/1.4 here for about £240 (plus postage admittedly, if you're not within staggering distance of a good little local), but still only ~£30 more than that import offering. TBH, I'd rather pay the extra and have the guarantee of a UK warranty and support.

Also, having used both Tamron and Sigma primes and zooms, I will never stray from Canon glass again, unless it's for the ultrawide end, or a CZ...

i think the general feeling is they have simply added an S to the name and not a lot else

the budget d50 should be interesting depending on how cheap it goes for tho
