    Re: e8400, query

just a quick question Wesley, what have been the results from the motherboards you have tested?. Just curious as it will give an even better insight, providing you can say that or just say at the same time on monday with the intel board results.

Once again, thanks for the help wesley and thanks scan for that A* in customer service that i have never seen else where, only here .

Now you see, even if Scan were doing nothing about this whole problem with the E8400 temperatures, it still wouldnt be their fault nor is it poor customer service, although a lot of people that buy an E8400 and get dodgy temps blame it on where they got it from and demand an exchange / refund and when refused go emo on their wrists XD.

But you have to remember that this problem is purely intel's fault, firstly for making dodgy chips, and secondly for still believing that they are operating fine and there is nothing wrong with them.

Please note that my previous venting about my temps wasnt aimed at Scan, it was all venting at Intel, but its good to see that scan are taking action on Intel's behalf.

    Re: e8400, query

i couldnt agree more. I do however, believe scan and any other company should contact the manufacturer on the customers behalf. Scan did this and when intel gave a poor response, scan have taken it into there own hands, i respect that and i will continue shopping here as i like the prices are service

What temps SHOULD we be getting then with stock cooling stock speeds? I know it depends on your case, but a rough idea?

All Intel will say to us is upto Throttle is fine, we have not had a chance to do the Intel test yet though, it will be Wednesday now before we can action this.

Up to throttle is fine yes, but that isnt the problem, the problem is that the temperatures being read are deffinately incorrect and displaying higher readings then they should be.

Cant wait for the results, but I hope your not using a CPU from a newer batch.

    Re: e8400, query

What is throttle? Since I'm going to try to go for 4ghz whenever I get my bios updated. Since general use (not gaming) is at 45 but core 1 is at 40 and core 2 is at 39.

That's stock speeds, stock cooling. I always thought it was normal since throttle is 60 isn't it?

    Re: e8400, query

I accidentally clicked thank instead of quote for the throttle question o.O.

Up to throttle is up to intels specified max temperature for the chip, which for 45 nm proccessors is 72.5 degrees.

But as I mentioned before, mine reads over 75 degrees when the heatsink and air coming out of the exhaust fan are no where near hot enough for the CPU to be at 75 degrees.

We (or at least I) deffinately require real and accurate temperature readings.

Think intel will actualy act upon this? I.E RMA, recall or anything? Or just acknoledge there is a fault?
So does that mean that as long as it is less that 65*c then it's fine? If that's right then that's fine. By the time my arctic cooler 7 pro gets here I should be able to hit 4ghz ith a 20*C margin

Yes I have the latest 1.8 bios, no change. Im not a complete nincompoop, just a partial nincompoop. Poopy poop. XD

My 75 degrees are at 4 Ghz and up though, but it still really isnt that hot. Not sure what they are at stock, I'll check tomorrow.

Im running at 4.05 Ghz 1.3v and 900 mhz ram 110% stable BSOD and error free.

Just out of interest, if they do say do a recall what will the rules be? I've never had to return any of my products. I don't have any of the packaging anymore. All I've got is the chip itself, the heatsink/fan and the booklets/documentation that came with it along with the recipe that came from SCAN with the order.
