Even if it is a fault, just think how long it will take to get a replacement.

    Yep, spam like this spam.

This is a very big forum with lots of sections to post in.

If there was a seperate memory section under hardware I would have had an extra 20-50 posts by now

    Re: e8400, query

    Ok Guys

We have the results and before I give them to you, I will start by saying Intel were indeed correct.

    Setup the Intel chip on an Intel board using the Intel monitoring software and stock cooler;
    the results are as below:

Temp reported in Idle around 32oC

Temp reported in Prime95 after around 1 hour of constant testing 47oC

Temp reported in Prime95 after around 2 hours of constant testing 51oC

Having spoken to Intel channel support with these findings they therefore conclude the CPU's are not faulty.

    Re: e8400, query

Thanks Wesley. Are these the core temperatures you're reporting, or the cpu sensor between the cores?

    Re: e8400, query

so if you have trouble with temp readings it is down to the design of your motherboard? The CPUs are working normally as they should?

Most motherbaord manufacturers, certainly the ones we have contact with are working on new BIOS updates to correct the temperature readings, but ultimately yes the CPUs are working normally and the excessive temperatures people are currently experiencing are not accurate.

    Re: e8400, query

This takes me back to when the socket 754 AMD 64's first came out and most of the motherboards were reading CPU temperatures about 10 deg high

    Re: e8400, query

Those temps look fine, but my Idle is still 40-42 degrees

Hopefully a new mobo bios will fix this like you say.
