Are you using coretemp 0.96? If so use the previous version and you should find the temps are lower so this can't be relied upon. I have a 7c difference at load between the 0.95 and 0.96.

Also I have same board and bios version as you and my idle temps are around 21c.

Re: e8400, query

did you record the results from the other non intel boards? its just annoying that my board seems to be fine in america and everywhere else it was released, it just seems odd.
It is strange still that people who ahd the batches after have no problems >.<. Anyone know if asus plan to bring out a new bios for the p5n-d?xD

Re: e8400, query

I did not record the results from the non - Intel boards however, we did push the temperatures higher than the Intel's thermal throttle and the system continued to operate with full stability.

We quickly powered down the system at one point and removed the fan and despite the reported temps being higher than Intels throttle the CPU was cool to touch and during operation the fins of the fan never got hot.

Re: e8400, query

Yes, there's no doubt that these chips run incredibly cool - I left mine folding overnight using both cores at 100%, and when I got up in the morning the case exhaust fan was blowing cold air out the back.

Unfortunately however, my core temperatures were reported at 45°C idle when I used the stock cooler.

Hmmm, im experienceing this right now, i pressed against the cpu fan as it was making a weird noise last night and now the temps went up from 45-55C idle all the way to 100C. Possibly a weird reaction from my board?XD its random that it happens now. Im ordering the arctic cooler 7 today anyways.

What is core temp? Im using my bios and MSI's dual core centre which both display 40 degrees when idle.

Re: e8400, query

Just don't worry about the temps. When I plan to OC it to 4ghz I'm just going to go for it and ignore the temps since I know it will be cooler than it's being reported by the looks of it.

Re: e8400, query

i believe its probably 10C off, my arctic freezer 7 is coldish, even after hours so a defifntly 35C is not correct.
Bios needs updating for me but they need to release it first >.<

Re: e8400, query

Sorry, I just wonder if anyone from Scan knows when new Wolfdales E8400 are going to be in stock again ? Any idea ? It can't be out of stock for months ... I presume Intel is still on time with production, no ?

Or would I be better off if I pre-ordered ? Oh, and I have read about the temperature sensor problem. Maybe the new batches will be alright, no ?

Please let me know ... thank you

Looks like there are some supply problems at the moment, it's pretty tough to pick one of these babies up anywhere on the intertubes at the moment.

i'm just gonna sit and wait till mine arrives.

Re: e8400, query

O.o this thread has gone a bit off topic but anyways, the problem is indeed the motherboard bios, the sensors are apparently correct and since scan tested it personally i can not disagree as there is little evidence to distinguish between either problem. Isnt the e8400@ £150 now? pathetic pricing for a dual core, i got mine for £128 or something on release and i feel happy because i wouldnt of paid that much for it.

I'm still not clear in my head how the BIOS can affect the readings of the cores. I thought the whole point of the DTS diodes was that they were read directly. This is why I'm just not sure exactly what Scan tested for, or (more importantly, perhaps) what non-Intel boards they compared it to in order to have a reference.
