Re: Sick of City Link ? - You bet !!

    Well this is like deja-vu.

Another failed City Link delivery for me. I'm on approx 1/4 failed delivery ratio for my orders with them (not just with Scan but other unfortunate e-tailers use this facrcial outfit aswell)
They are just so unreliable in the Norwich area - always have been (agency drivers accoring to the depot manager)

    Today was just another classic........
"Goods loaded on van for delivery today" 09:06am delcared their lovely website. Yippee I thought my shiny new harddrive will be here soon.
I sit in my front room, watching out over my driveway.
Test the door bell jeez thats loud, door knocker - check, lights on -check, car in drive -check. Yup they can't miss me, its so obvious i'm in !!
Hopefully the driver doesn't need the loo again and drive past my house again like last time, not bothering to deliver.
No, no, no thats all in the past...... relax it will be here, it will.

By about 2pm I'm getting worried - thats about the latest I usually have my orders delivered from City Link.
But I remain calm, "courier of the year" I remind myself. "The City Link name has always been, and remains to this day, a guarantee of speed, efficiency, flexibility, reliability and professionalism.City Link guarantees next- day delivery worldwide, and to 25 European cities" according to there website.

18:55pm Ok last 5 mins to contact cust service. Get told that they are very busy today and many orders will be late or delivered tomorrow.

Ahhh didumms, wery wery busy are we on a cold liccle day like this, ahhhhh poor little City - Link.

Oh....... hang on, maybe their not so poor, piss poor logistical management aside, maybe they are happy to take money from customers then LIE about delivering.

Lies you say, what lies are these ?
The Lie that according to their tracking "The goods have been returned to the depot after an unsuccessful delivery attempt" 20:28pm.

I'm sitting there gobsmaked, incensed even, no-one walked down my cul-de-sac without me seeing them today let alone bring a big yellow City-Link van.

So i'm left without my goods, City-Link have been paid, Scan can't do anything as "they are estimated delivery times" remember (well don't send me a useless, inaccurate tracking link then).

I fortunatley got free delivery so can I complain really ????
Well........Someone still paid 8hitty-Link, me or Scan - does it matter? 8hitty-Link broke another promised next day delivery - but ahh wait the trump card. Fraudulently 'claiming' to have attempted delivery, nice.
That is the level of the company we are dealing with here. LIARS

    Ah well.
If the goods don't arrive by 12noon 2mrw when I have to go out, I shall not accept delivery and City-Link and Scan can argue amongst themselves about what happens to my package.
I shall insist on a refund and reluctantly (I love Scan really, thats why i'm a sucker for coming back here to shop) source my goods from elsewhere, maybe a tad more expensive, but who use a honest courier.

    As a comparison.
I ordered a pair of front forks for my mountian bike on friday from Chainreactioncycles (same day & time ordered my goods from Scan).
    They are based in N.I.
I chose "free" Parcelforce 48hr delivery with the order.
Guess what arrived this morning at 10:30ish.

Re: Sick of City Link ? - You bet !!

I guess your just unlucky. City-link in my area are fine. Despite not requesting a delivery time they always arrive at around half ten, the latest i have had is 11. The courier i have had worst luck is with royal mail delivery, they always come when i am not in or unable to answer the door.

Citylink great for me. Wish more companies offered Rayal Mail for smaller orders, though so delivery doesn't cost £6 on a £5 item.

    Yeah just unlucky............probably.

Thing is over the last 7 years i've sold scores of items on ebay with "Royal Mail Special Delivery" (not to mention numerous goods received). They always deliver or attempt to deliver. I have never had even 1 case of them not honouring the next day gurantee.

City Link i've had at least 4 out of 20 or so occasions when they haven't even [B]bothered[/B ]to attempt delivery. 1 other occasion (ebuyer supplier) the driver left the parcel with a neighbour, but didn't leave me a card.
I didn't know where it was, City link didn't, he was an agency worker and was off then for 3 days.
My neighbour didn't bring it as I work nights and she didn't want to disturb me.
3 days passed, eventually the who did it came back to work, got bollocked, recollected the parcel and the depot manager bought it to me personally
Yes fiasco over, ebuyer refunded me the delivery charge, but still - not good enough.

75% success rate, thats stretching the bundaries of "guranteed next day" a little too far.

Re: Sick of City Link ? - You bet !!

Hope you get it sorted, I have only had one problem with City Link, and that was when they said they tried to deliver an item but we were out, which was complete rubbish as there were 4 people in the house all day. So the driver lied, probably couldn't be bothered with the delivery and just wanted to get home asap.

But like I said, only happened once but it does happen and thats bad enough.

As is said in every one of these city link threads...

    "it's a post code lottery"

so before it all starts again with everyone having their stories and a bash...

So unless the posts are relevant to the post in question there isn't really any point in deviating, as it just ends up with the usual:

"City link are rubbish where i am"
"City link are always great for me"
"Damn them, they never turn up"
"Always early morning delivery's for me, it's great"

which is tangibly boring to read for practically everyone due to the amount that it comes up...

If it's just the usual sweeping comments about city link then it is not relevant to the current topic of discussion which is an absent package from SCAN...

Re: Sick of City Link ? - You bet !!

i never had a problem with city link, now i moved within a mile of the depot and wonder what will happen tomorrow.
if i miss a delivery i ask em to hold it as i go to the depot every day for work collections anyway.

it is a postcode lottery though.

Re: Sick of City Link ? - You bet !!

As people have said your mileage varies dependent on where you live. Doesn't make it any better though does it when your goods don't turn up.

As for the website tracking - thats just an out an out lie.

Not sure if anything can be done about it, other e-tailers use them too and as the delivery is FREE I suppose SCAN are bearing the brunt of a non-delivery cost wise.

One thing is worse than this tho, and thats trying to collect on a Saturday morning - its HELL! (Bristol office)

I'm serviced by the same depot as the OP, one thing I noticed was that home delivery could be variable, but it was about 80-90% successful, however since I started getting them delivered to work it's been 100% - it seems they don't want to try fobbing a business off with the failed delivery rubbish..

The ONLY way to get a reliable service from City Link is to use a business address for your deliveries.

City Link NEVER miss a delivery when its to a work address.

As is said in every one of these city link threads...

    "it's a post code lottery"
    I cant see how TakTak
    I have lived in:
    Portsmouth
    Cardiff
    Cambridge
    Durham

City Link, if delivering to a home address, have been pathetic at all of them.

The goods have just arrived thou so that is that i guess.

Hope Scan get there carriage fee cancelled/refunded, i'd be annoyed if I'd paid for next day guranteed - which isn't actually guranteed.

Driver wasn't to happy when he saw my name and signature was "1DAYL8", but i'm sure he'll get over it.....

City Link do guarantee next day delivery from the point of dispatch, which means if this does not happen a claim can be made.
