We no longer test XFX cards here at Scan. Upon receipt they are shipped to XFX and tested solely by them. We don't tend to get very many updates during this period until we are informed as to the return shipping date of the card. As soon as we have more information we'll update you accordingly.

    All the best,
Just wondering why is that? Is this something that Scan & XFX have agreed upon. What about other manufactuers such as BFG etc etc?

    Re: RMA Question

Know the feeling pal, I've been the same in the past but I chose not to use Scan for the majority of my other RMA's, mainly hard disks - purely because with WD, Seagate etc you can provide credit card details and they send an advanced replacement. As long as the disk is returned within 30 days you don't get charged for the replacement. Good system - though not had to RMA a disk for years now... motherboards and gpu's on the other hand...

    Re: RMA Question

I got some great news a moment ago from Scan and that's the return of my XFX 9800 GX2, tested by Scan (confirmed as faulty) and then returned to XFX for repair or replacement. However one thing does puzzle me, XFX have returned the card as not faulty, and the CS Chap at Scan said they often say that but mean the card has been repaired, tested and is now (not faulty and) good to go.

Why do they say it's returned not faulty if this isn't the case? surely this puts Scan in a difficult position explaining what the XFX message means?

It also makes me wonder what I'm getting back tomorrow......

    Hi Clockedtohell,
Any update on your scan/xfx rma.
Did you receive a repaired or replacement card?
    How has it been since?

    Re: RMA Question

Hey Shaolin Chicken, Well it's all a bit of a mystery really. I re installed the GPU after rebuilding the PC completely and adding a cooling loop for the N/B.

I removed the GX2's outer casing and fired it all back up. Tested the card in Crysis, COD4, BF2 and L4D. It would seem whatever has been done by XFX has solved the problem. It would have been nice to get a detailed explanation of the fault and fix used from XFX. At least then it would have helped with identifying the issue if it occurred again in the future for me, or anyone else for that matter.

I have to say full marks to Scan, although the process is length and a right pain (30 days without my card), especially if you only have one PC capable of gaming luckily I have two rigs. The one peice of feed back I see improving the process as it stand, would be details of the fault and fix communicated through to the customer. This would happen with any other product be it a car, TV etc etc. Would be great to see it introduced here too.

Closing thoughts, all in all, I'm a happy bunny but will opt for BFG card next time as the XFX process, although it worked, is just too long. I hear BFG have a centre in Swansea or Cardiff which speeds up the process significantly (around 2 weeks).

    Re: RMA Question

    Hi Clockedtohell,

Thanks for the update, totally agree that the purchaser of the card should be kept informed along the way, especially if said purchaser has spent a good while trying to pinpoint the fault.
Anyway glad to hear that you have had a successful outcome to your rma.

The reason I asked is because of the 'troubles' I have had after purchasing a faulty xfx gtx 260 xt from scan. Not impressed with the whole procedure, takes too long, also as you have said, had no idea what was happening, where the card was and what was being done to it. My card became faulty after 7 days of light gaming, fan would spin up to full speed, games would recover from a nvidia driver error, but becuase it was 2 months after the time of purchase that I could find the time to do some gaming, I was unable to get a refund or a new replament, so had to settle for a 'repaired' card.

The reason I have put repaired in quotation is because I believe that my card is still faulty and have a request to all gtx 260 owners to run a test on there card for me. If anyone with a gtx 260 could run an occt 3.0.1.0 gpu test in full screen with error checking ticked for 15 mins duration and tell me if they get any errors, I would be most grateful.

Just for the record I got 36282 errors after 15 mins.

Another annoying thing about my xfx rma was that I included all cables and adapters in sealed unopened packets in a pristine condition and my card was returned without the xfx outer sleeve, just the card in an empty slightly battered box, no accessories, nothing.

Sorry for the thread hijack Clockedtohell, I wish you all the best with your card and thank you for taking the time to update the thread.

    Re: RMA Question

No worries shaolin chicken, I wish you all the best with your RMA.....I'll definitely be buying a BFG next time. Just so much easier than the XFX process.

I do in all honesty feel sorry for the Scan guys. When I called and the Scan Guy told me the card was back and on it's way to me "no fault found" I nearly hit the roof. Then the chap explained that it normally meant that XFX had fixed it, I started to calm down but was massively suspicious. Why, oh why can't they just tell you the truth, i.e. card repaired or software updated....just something useful. Vent over!

Can anyone from Scan answer? Surely this is a nightmare for you guys.

    Re: RMA Question

    Thanks TAKTAK,
    you're a star

My 'repaired' card is definitely not repaired as later last night, I thought I would sit down and play a relaxing game of King's Bounty - The Legend, only to find that the card was artifacting badly in game, so the occt test showed the card to be faulty and was proved later in game.

Anyway, I've had another rma number sent out to me today, the 'repaired' card will be returned to scan tomorrow for retesting.

This was my first xfx graphic card and will definitely be the last

Clockedtohell I felt the same when scan said that the xfx system was showing as 'no fault found' on my card.
    Played blue murder

The XFX system needs to be changed.
