To be precise it is not card reader but the thing with audio ports. Still it is very flexible and I see no side effects :]. However I would not buy this card now because of poor support for 3d acceleration under linux.

I noticed some issues with USB controller/drivers or USB power. I have wireless keyboard which loses time to time some letters. Strange thing is that the keyboard works perfectly under linux.
Sometimes also my mp3 player does not want to charge over USB.

Have you experienced any issues with usb?

    Hello to all,

I have the 2x SATA HD's and 1x SATA CD-ROM thing going on in this system. It's the way to go, who needs IDE? The problem though is that the eSATA port is hooked on the JMicron chipset which is also responsible for the IDE port so i can't completely disable it. Oh well, if only they used all of the ICH's capabilities then we wouldn't have any issues as Intel has great drivers (this goes for audio too since they use that realtek chip).

I've had no other issues with this system as of yet except one Samsung HD semi-dying on me (HD501LJ). I have the 7900GS in there and it works fine.

Anyone that managed to hook it up with a Reserator 1 V2 let me know!

Oh, and one more thing. Does anyone know what the differences between our system and the T3-P5G965A are? It comes up in the Download's page but not in products, strange!

    No USB issues here.

Why does the SATA hard drive have to be mounted with PCB up? Can it be mounted the other way? When its mounted according to the manual the l shape SATA cables are the 'wrong' way round! Also my 74GB raptor is very noisy in this case! Anyone else got this problem? Any solutions?

    Hi,
Today, I managed to buy this asus barebone.

Can somebody tell me when I put the fan to the CPU, I need something between the CPU or FAN?
However I see something gray layer on the copper. Or is this the material to help dissipate the temperature?

    Thanks for the help!

Keep the grey stuff on, its thermal compound, just screw the heatsink in, remember to remove the 2 rubber strips and your ready to go.

    The three I've seen kicked about on the tread are;

MSI ATI RX1650XT-T2d256EZ 256MB (Large Passive Heatsink Fan)
Sapphire RADEON X1650 PRO ATI 256 MB
    Asus EAX X1950Pro 256MB
I have the MSI RX1650. I have the AMD version of the T3 but it is basically the same layout inside.

The card fits however the end of the passive heatsink does touch the end of the optical drive (see picture). It doesnt really cause a problem though.

I did look for a shorter optical drive but they all seem to be 17 / 18cm these days. Emailed Scan and they said they have nothing shorter than 18cm. I may put in two laptop optical drives in the 5.25 bay instead.

Also I put in an Akasa System air extractor in the top pci blank to expel the hot air from the heatsink. It fits fine and doesnt touch the optical drive.

What system temps you guys getting in this system? Did changing PSU help cool the system down better? I am getting temps between 45 - 50c.

Any of you made any changes / modified anything to improve cooling?

    Thanks.

I know what the problem is. I had it on another system where the memory speed could not be changed in the BIOS.

On the performance RAM modules, if you read the datasheets on them, you will find that the SPD is only programmed for 667MHz. For 800MHz the settings need to be set manually in the BIOS. I found this to be the same with all brands of 'high performance' memory.

However the valueram, or standard memory have the SPD programmed for 800MHz.

This is the reason I had to sell my Kingston HyperX PC6400 and go with the standard Kingston PC6400 memory.

Only way around it is for a BIOS to be released where all the settings can be changed manually so it doesnt use the settings in the SPD chip.

    Hi,

    I have read this documentum:
    http://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Bar..._t3-p5g965.zip

And it sais the qualified memories on page 2-9, and the table list contains my memory: Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4

So I don't understand if this memory is qualified, why does it support neither?

    Regards!

I would say Asus have just tried the memory and it worked / booted fine at the settings in the SPD chip, so they included it on the QVL list, but did not actually check it was running at PC2-6400 800MHz.

Do you have any access to any standard non performance pc2-6400 RAM to try in your system?

    Hi,
I have a question regarding the installation of a DVD burner. In order to use the eject button (the one located on the front panel of the Barebone), I had to remove the front panel of my DVD burner (is this normal ?).
When I align the DVD with the 4 holes in the case, I cannot use the eject button. To use it, I had to mis-align it slightly so that my DVD is only hold with two screws. Is this normal ?
    Many thanks
