    I am building a new system for a customer of mine based on a Asus T3-P5G965 barebones system with an Core 2 Duo e6300 and Patriot Signature 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) memory.

I assembled everything and powered it up. Everything powered up but I did not get any kind of post beep or video. I then reseated the RAM, then pulled the heatsink off and found that I had missed taking off the rubber strips on the bottom of the heatsink included with the Asus T3. I then pulled out the CPU and made sure it was seated correctly then installed the heatsink with these rubber strips removed. I still cannot get it to post or even beep any codes to me. I have tried moving the RAM around to different slots, clearing the CMOS, pulling the battery, and pulling everything off it not required to post. I still can't get anything out of it other than it lighting up and spinning the fans. Is it possible that for the few moments it was powered up without proper contact of the heatsink that I cooked the CPU? Does it have any thermal protection built in to prevent this? This is my first Intel based system and I do not have any other mobos, processors, or RAM to try in it. Any help would be appreciated so I can troubleshoot this system and deliver it.

    Hi all,

I am very interested in this system, but can anyone confirm that you can make fsb adjustments, vcore voltage adjustments etc.?

I know that Snedger felt there may be a hidden screen with the overclocking options.

    Is this the case?

    hi jonah.
my experience so far, and i've searched high and low, is that you can't overclock this board at all. it is a real disappointment because i got a decent E6600 chip and very high quality ram, which would easily give me a 20% boost. however i am pleased with the system in general. still, i would definitely prefer the option to overclock. you never know, they may release a bios upgrade with new options. in the bios, they have menu items for the vcore and vdimm etc., but when you select them and try to change, + - left / right, enter, space, tab etc., the only option you get is "ignore", which basically means it is a pointless menu.
this is the one downside of an otherwise great system.

p.s. there is the AiBooster utility, which apparently allows you to overclock from within windows, but it won't run in windows vista so i haven't been able to try it out.

    Thanks Timmac,

    That is a real shame.

I know that if you want ultimate overclock-ability you should build your own system, but I've been doing that for years and I just cant be arsed to do it anymore, I just want to buy a reasonable system off the shelf and be able to tweak it up a bit.

    Perhaps Evesham can help....

You can try a different system, i think this one is not over clock friendly as it was designed for a different purpose!

    Defintely not an overclocker.
A good strategy for choosing an overclockable system might be to download and read the manual first - seeing as Asus can't be asused to even create a manual might provide a clue of how suitable this box is for o'clocking.
I spend months researching when I build a machine - for this build, I think the time taken annoyed my gf a bit, but she got a really good PC, exactly suitable (well, maybe a bit overspec'ed) for her needs.

BTW I've got the mic working. Turns out that the two mono dictation headsets my gf has do not work with it, but my edimensional headset works perfectly.

Next stage is to snaffle another refurbished graphics card, and swap out a 6800GT to go into the Asus.

Hello, now i got my BBONE

I used it for the past 12 days and im supprised, NOTHING is wrong, everything works and i CAN burn DVDRW/DVDR and CDR with the IDE channel

Using bios 0202 so far, and everything is working so i dont think i will change.. I can also comfirm that standard ATX supply fits perfectly.. and working

My CPU is at 47-48C IDLE and around 50-52 FULLLOAD

    I LOVE THIS SYSTEM!!
And the Onboard gfx card gets around 800p in 3Dmark 2005, so everyone know.. (A x300 CHEAP card gets over 1200!) So its NOT for playing
Soon i will buy a 6600GT and benchmark it again

    Regards, Jim

    BTW: Im using an c2d E6300 and ONE 1024MB A-DATA PC2-6400 stick. (800mhz)

Nice! Looking good. Why not go for GeForce 7 series? Same price better performance!

    Not working, not supported..

I got a problem now, i think its something wrong with the cpu tempmeter..
It NEVER goes over 60c? Even if i stresstest it and stops the fan for a second?

Anyone knows what it could be?
Burning of DVDR still works, no problems!

    Regards, Jim

If it never goes over 60 then its probably because you are running it quite well? I wouldnt worry, i dont think its common for temp sensors to go bad so quick! (Might be totally off here)

    Hi Timmac

I have tried Vista but keep getting the same device in device manager PCI Simple Communications

What driver did you use to fix this?

I thought about just disabling it but my machine wont sleep or hibernate. Looks like it's away to do it then just comes back on. Works fine in XP though. bios 0308

    Cheers,
    James

    Overclocking once again

    Hey,

Could anybody confirm that there is absolute no way of any CPU overclocking on this system? Maybe at least there is possibility to adjust FSB? I am not sure if I should go for e4300 and overclock it or buy e6300 or e6400.

    Thanks!
