    Re: windows 7 pre order

Well I'm obviously not getting anywhere with this, so I'm going to drop it becuase its got boring. As far as I'm concerned I'm not breaking any laws and not doing anything illegal and will be quite happy to do what I plan to do. I dont agree with piracy, and dont see what I'm doing as that. Thanks everyone for trying to explain it, sorry Admins you saw it that way.

You need to educate yourself then, because ignorance of the law is not a defense against breaking the law.

If you don't believe us telling you you would be breaking the law, then consult a lawyer, the C.A.B or go direct to the govnt. office responsible. Just go to someone who you do believe knows the law, unless you think you know the law better than those sources.

    Re: windows 7 pre order

My final comment on this is that as far as I'm concerned unless you actually modify the software to circumvent the copy protection, ie cracks/hacks, then you are not breaking the law.

Yes we know that you don't understand the law, but you won't believe us when we say you're breaking the law by illegally obtaining copyright software and using it outside of the period for which you have a license. So go to a third party who's knowledge of the law you do believe.

Ah right then, so it's OK for me to lend my Vista media to my friend to install on his PC? Or should I just make a hundred copies and hand them out? No copy protection would have been broken - just a simply copy...

I cant see anything wrong with that. When you buy from MS you buy the key, every disc is the same.

Your friend would have up to 120 days to buy a key before the software stops working, same as all software which has a trial period.

That's not the point, just because it works doesn't mean it's legal - it would still break the EULA. I think we could spend all day explaining the EULA/law to you but as previously mentioned you won't believe us anyway.
For your reference (I don't think there is a retail 7 EULA available yet): http://download.microsoft.com/docume...9cf5105718.pdf

It's a bit more than an opinion I'm afraid, it's how we run the forums. You clearly stated you were planning to download it as soon as it leaked - that's illegal and we will not allow discussion of this on here.

For a start, redistribution of Windows is forbidden unless agreed by Microsoft. I highly doubt the people you download the leak from are authorized to distribute it.

The same parts that protect music and film. Copyright remains with the holder - unless you have his permission to download that material, the law defaults to you not being able to.

That's for music and films, but software obviously has the copyright laws applied to it too.

In all honesty I'm gob-smacked that a news reporter thinks it's not illegal to download software they have not paid for because they plan to.

'As far as you are concerned' is irrelevant to the actual law in force I'm afraid.

This is the second thread that has been derailed because someone thinks it's okay to talk about downloading leaks on here.
Alex - if you want to start a thread exploring the legalities of downloading software from the internet, feel free, but I'll make this crystal clear - Saying that you're are planning to, have, or will download software illegally isn't allowed on here.

Now please, can we let this thread get back on track

Daft question but not seen it answered yet, im guessing the windows 7 versions are a single install only jobby? EG i need a licence for each computer in the household to run it.

Normal versions yes, but there is strong evidence of a multi install 'family pack' being available. Although nothing is official from Microsoft on this yet though.

    Re: windows 7 pre order

Cheers for that agent, next question that you may be able to answer for us, ive already got vista preinstalled on a recovery partition on my laptop but have been using windows 7 rc, say i use it on my laptop for now, if i get a PC in the future will i be ok to use the licence on that and go back to vista on the laptop or will it be tied to the laptop?

    Cheers in advance.

That would rather depend on if you buy an OEM (in which case yes) or a retail (in which case it can be transferred from one machine to the next, still only one machine at a time) license.

    Re: windows 7 pre order

Hey guys not stirring up trouble.

I wanted to apologise for my "behaviour" last time. I wanted to push slightly beyond what I normally would. I'm not stupid, of course I know "obtaining" a copy of MS licesnsed software is illegal, but I have had problems with the way moderators and admins handle things like this at other forums, and I wanted to see how it was handled here before I decide I want to make Hexus my main "forum home" so to speak.

I was really impressed how it was handled actually. I wasn't time wasting it was good to have the discussion, I hope you can understand and are not too mad at me, but Hexus really does look like the much friendlier, community place I want to be a part of.

Why would we be mad at you? We discussed something, that's all. We might disagree with you on one thread but it doesn't mean we wouldn't be happy to help with another issue or hold a grudge so to speak - provided you don't cross the line and get banned that is
I don't mean to speak in lace of a mod BTW, I'm just giving my opinion.
    Anyway, welcome to the forum!

PS: Just a reminder but discussing warez, piracy etc is forbidden on this forum and can lead to bans.
