lol i love these threads they are great fun.

if you were in public you'd be swinging handbags.

as a liverpool fan i'd say so what you didn't get the decision last week lets all give you a big HUG and say ARSNAL are picked on.

the main thing for me was we wanted it more we never let our heads go down and yes at times we were outplayed BUt i don't give a RAts A*** cos we are in the semi final again

and you have no trophies again this year

    WOOHOO!!

    Re: Champions league Thread

As a neutral (Villa fan) I'd like to say it was one of the most entertaining games I've seen for a while, even my American wife was hooked and cheered when Arsenal scored (it'd better have been for the appreciation of Walcott's run alone).

And I must say, Arsenal were the better team, but they were out thought and out fought, and Liverpool deserved their win.

To use a quick anecdote, I'm not the best pool player in my league, and very often I beat players who are better than me, with some deft snookers and some good bag covering. That was Liverpool over the two legs.

The penalty incidents were neither here nor there, it happens week in, week out, neither, imo, were the strongest cases I've ever seen, and either could have been given.

    Once again, what a match!

    Re: Champions league Thread

I for One am/was hoping for a Man Utd v Liverpool ECL Final,

Being a Man U Fan and yes living in manchester before the inevitable jokes come, cant see any issue getting past Roma tonight or a somewhat ordinary Barca in two weeks (if they go through).

I know this is dangerous ground as any Utd fan would hate above al things to get beat off Pool in the final,

Having said that, its great that 2 Northern Monkey Clubs would be the cream of the European Crop

We should get past Roma tonight, but I think Barca will be tricky in the semi final. If we can keep rio and vidic fit then we will have a good chance.

IMO walcott or bender should have started alongside ade because Ade is clueless when his up front alone.

Our park like defending cost us the ALL 3 games against liverpool. when playing at this level you cannot afford to gift a team like liverpool goals like that. if we defend like that against united. i can see them putting 4 past us as well

On the penalty side of things, i do beleive we was hard done by with both pen decisions but that is not the soul reason whyw e lost the tie. its because of our immature defening
Bloody hell, sound analysis, I agree completely with you with regards to the team set up. Playing Ponderous instead of Toure at the back is a no no. He has had some excellent games, notably against Milan, but I'm sure he shares a common ancestor with Titus Bramble, Rio Ferdinand and David James simply because they all have the ability to switch off for a second at any given random moment. Ponderous did it twice with schoolboy errors. Playing Eboue, who I don't rate that highly, at right back and using Walcott on the right midfield was a better choice. Walcott has been making an impact as a sub and it's time to give him some starts.

Wenger has miscalculated because he was forced to play players out of position for a crucial match simply because the squad is not big enough. Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd have squads with quality in depth, Arsenal have 14 players. It was shocking to see RVP come on with both thighs heavily strapped. You'd get more appearances employing a ghost rather than RVP.

I hoped I'd be wrong when i posted this.

It's all very well thinking that we can score right upto the 90th minute with a single style but recently we have been pretty poor in the final third and are not creating the opportunities. That's when you need to change things and there simply aren't the choice of players available to do it.

I said at Christmas that Arsene needed to spend some cash if we were to compete in April but it seems he has some master plan. Maybe he isn't serious about winning the league and sees this year as a building year after Henry's departure. Not spending money that was freely available has come back to bite us in the rear.

At a time when Liverpool's Gerrard and Torres are starting to pay off and their confidence grows and ours is going in the opposite direction I think Liverpool are the better bet over the two games. I hope they are good games but I think Arsenal's season will unravel shortly. Too many young players and not a lot of natural leaders in the side. I think that next year will be a different story though and we'll do extremely well in all competitions.
    but now I'm vindicated

Arsenal could have wrapped it up when the ball was played in from the left, everyone missed it and it fell nicely to Adebayor who only had to take a touch, round the keeper and put it in, instead he was woeful. Walcott's run deserved a goal but what were we doing once we knew it was in the bag? We seemed to lose concentration. How many times now have a team equalised soon after we have scored? I think Wenger was incensed by the way his players threw chances away and defended poorly.

As for the penalties I think that both were. One got given the other didn't, simple as that. You can't expect to win trophies on the back of refereeing decisions, you have to make the running. It's frustrating and annoying but there you go. Arsene will have to strengthen the squad significantly if he's serious about lasting the distance next year. I don't think that us Arsenal fans can be too upset bearing in mind how young this team is and the way they have acquitted themselves this year, but even they get tired and have run out of puff early.

    Hello?

the fact of what you call Jelly legging was because he was being restricked to move onto the ball in the box, due to being restricked pulled back in the box knocked him off balance hence the penalty decision being given"straight away" with no intervention by the KOP I didnt see him stopping holding his ear to the crowd then giving the decision it was almost instantanious the decision.

    What a stupid comment.

Your blindness to all that isnt scouse is incredible.

Nowhere else would that have been given. The crowd noise was incredible and the ref was under pressure to give a foul that was outside the box by a player that was outside the box aswell.
The ref even booked the wrong player for gods sake.

Its all part of the game now unfortunately. The players did act admirably though from both sides.

If you knew about football or ever been to a match crowds generally shout and sing especially the KOP as soon as the foul was committed the ref pointed to the spot (fact) the only silence from the crowd all game was the minutes silence at the start of the game.

Are you saying when HLEB fell over in the box on the 1st game the gooners kept quiet?

Fell over? A bit of the legendary "scouse wit" shining through there!

Good result last night for united. Thought we deserved a win, although we struggled to get hold of the ball at times in midfield. What was that penalty about? I can't stand mancini. No class, greedy, terrible delivery and he's probably the worst diver I've ever seen!

Barca next. I can see it going one way or the other to be honest. You can't really discount a team with a frontline of henry, eto'o, messi and ronaldinho. You know what they say about class and form . I pray chelsea win the semis. Even if we got through to the final and beat liverpool they'd still be harping on about getting into the final.

Said that for a response "you fell into the Trap"

maybe we would and it would be justified but I suppose IF United get to the final it would be about time the actually did something in Europe...
