    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

    If the Juicy 5's are anything like the Juicy Ultimates on my bike then I'd suggest that you invest in an Avid Brake Bleed kit cos you're gonna need it. Great brakes when the work (although too lightweight for downhill me thinks) but they are forever letting in air, or in my case dumping fluid everywhere from a loose bleed valve

    SRAM and Shimano shifters have different cable pulls. I might have this the wrong way around, but I think you'll find that a SRAM shifter will pull twice as much cable per shift so you'll hop two gears trying to use a Shimano mech.

    yeah i know they shift down fine but up is horrible, the sram shifter was given to me with it. Personally i never use Sram gear stuff have always found it horrible and unsmooth to use.

    in regards to the jucy 5's mine luckily dont seem to suffer from the leaky valve problems that alot of avid brakes do, they are a couple of years old now (they came off my previous bike) and have not had to bled once yet or leaked yet, If they leak now i'll be really annoyed.

    That's what I keep telling myself when I'm feeling too lazy to clean my bike
    I don't mean to sound cold, or cruel, or vicious, but I am so that's the way it comes out.

    The main point here is that SRAM and Shimano don't actually mix. It's like trying to pull a V brake with a road lever.

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

    New ish bike, Decided I wasn't really getting along with the stumpjumper not very confidence inspiring on the downhills and more suited to XC riding imho;

    Decided to put together my dream all mountain machine so to speak;

    Frame; Enduro SL Carbon
    Forks; Fox Van 36 RC2
    Drive-train; SLX double n bash cranks with XTR front and rear mech, XT cassette, XT shifters.
    Wheels; Mavic 819 with pro 2 hubs
    Stoppers; Hope M4 with 203 rotors front and back (fatty I am)

    Climbs just as good as the stumpjumper but the slacker angles make it soo much more rewarding on the downs

    Yup, lush plush foxes!

    Still need to dial in the RC2 low and high speed damping, just have them both around middlish now.

    How do you run yours?

    since im a light (10stone) i keep the preloads on softest and the dampers around middleish. I like them on softest since im light and never bottom them out anyway

    Like the On-One. A riding buddy runs a 29er Inbred - it was SS, but he had to put gears back on it as it was shredding his knees... he's running a 160mm disc at the back on Shimano brakes, curious as to how a 185 will fit and a smaller one won't - is the 26" frame that different at the back?

    Re: Mountain Bike thread?

    Thanks

    Because the rear axle is moveable to tension the chain, it just so happened that my configuration made it impossible to fit a 165 in without the caliper hitting the frame. I could have sanded down the caliper or the frame to make it work, but thought nah, go with the 185.

    I know also that most Shimano brakes work [whatever size], so I think I'll be heading that way for my next upgrade or perhaps with Hope. 185mm front and rear on a single speed is just overkill
