Re: Premier League 10/11- Discussion Thread

Given Man City are huge underdogs for the title (nobody gave them a prayer at the start of the year, and few are giving them a prayer now), I guess it's better to play negatively if that's the only way you'll give yourself a chance, than it is to play positively if you feel you're almost guaranteed to lose. Still, Man City were woeful defensively, and it was luck (and Hart) more than judgement that Arsenal couldn't hit the net, so they might as well have had a go.

Blackpool, West Brom, Newcastle and Wolves (and probably a couple others which have escaped me) have all shown this year that playing positively and attacking the 'established' teams can pay you back.

With Arsenal being behind Man City, Arsenal needed to win the game. Man City just needed not to lose. Realistically, their aim is the Champions League, not the title.

There's beauty to a great defensive performance as much as a great attacking one - Inter vs Barcelona at the Nou Camp was enthralling and as tense as they come... the problem was Man City couldn't defend either.

Happy man last night after getting the final scores, surely that proves that God is a UTD fan , couldnt have gone any better in all honesty

Man City were very poor last night, they should have lost by a few, i wouldnt even say that defended that well either.

The major factor for me last night was number of shots target by City - 0 ? number of shots off target - 1, and im sure the Arsenal fans would agree that against a defence that isnt there greatest strength is pretty shocking. it was a bit like the Haye - Harrison fight without the knockout

And you cant say that it was an away game plan as they did the same to us but they were the home team.

I wonder if there 10th striker will make a difference ?

Blackpool with another great win last night. Not only the result, but the performance was very impressive! When will this Liverpool bad run end? King Kenny might not be the saviour after all.

I think its about time that bloody team and their supporters stopped blaming the managers! Its about time that team took responsibility for themselves. They are playing utter tripe atm and the only one they have to blame is themselves.

Although Blackpool isn't my team, i've really enjoyed how they've played this season..no sitting back and defending, just great attacking football.

Re: Premier League 10/11- Discussion Thread

Another +1 for Blackpool, I really dont think the get enough credit .. They play very good football im not at all supprised at some of there results this season,

If Liverpool had half of Blackpools spirit they wouldnt be in so much trouble.

Im going to stay on Liverpool as i am enjoying them being down the foot of the table as much as seeing Man U at the top, however the problem is simple ... the players they have are poor, Gerrard and Torres aside (im not including Reina as he does have much to do with how they play, although he is a class keeper), how many other players can you say that are "Class" players ..

Johnson - Possibly the worst right back in the country, cant defend for "Toffee"
Kyriakos (or how ever you spell it) - All i can say is OMG
Konchesky - Was crap at Fulham too - Maybe a love child of previous manager
Carragher - Puts his heart in it, but well past his best.
Agger - Average at best - Good shot though
Meireles - Cant do much tbh

I could go on but i wont .... no one who knows anything about football could say that these are liverpool quality players.

So there lies Liverpool's problems, your players are simply not good enough ...

If Liverpool fail to qualify for Euro this season then Torres will leave for sure, maybe a few others too, but i personally think that is the best thing that could happen, get rid of the dead wood and start again.

Your fix is not quick, it will take years to get things right again.

    Whos fault is it?

    2 well 3 people

    Hick's, Gillett

But mainly Benitez for buy buying so many crap players.

OMG i have never spoken about liverpool for so long .....

firstly yes you are right and then secondly no you are wrong.

Who's to blame for the demise of liverpool football club.
1,Kenny dalglish when he quit the job last time he left an ageing squad.
2, david moores after kenny dalglish left a succession of distinctly average managers left us wanting
3, hicks and gillett benitez bought in a deluge of fantastic prospects at liverpool (jack hobbs miki roque, shelvey pacheco, amoo, And a lot of others) but the owners didnt invest enough into the youth setup to make any of them turn into a rooney or a walcott or wiltshire.

The one person i blame the least is benitez, he took on a job bought in some good players torres Skrtel alonso mascherano and a few others the club failed to keep hold of the latter two. And lets BE honest the team that roy had and the one kenny now has is not that much different to Rafa's old team yet rafa won the champions league (and being a Man u fan you'll say we lucked out winning that year and your Right we did But i bet you'd of blooming took it wouldn't you) and he had us competing in the top three a place which we didnt really have the funds to be.The man deserves a medal really When Houllier left we were mid table benitez made us feel big again even though deep down we were mid table.

I am an avid liverpool fan have been for my entire life i briefly saw the brilliance as a child of dalglish and barnes and rush and mcmahon then watched the redknapps and mcmanamans and fowlers and owens, and We were Great we are now not great we are mid table the new owners will do there best but we now watch a league that is won by throwing money at it Chelsea spent hundreds of millions to experience for a few years what we achieved for two decades. Man u have done well the last two decades but also the huge debt you have now will one day cripple the club unless you get new owners too. Manchester city what 300 mil in two years and you only just breaking top four.

Sadly sheikh mohammed iam richer than god didnt buy my team so we may not win a trophy for a while but the thing you'll always see is that as liverpool fans we stand united through good and bad and hold our heads high for We were the mightiest of all the teams we had spirit not money.

And yeah you'll get 19 this year MAn u and you'll scream it from the stands next season but remember four things
1, your best player is a dirty SCouser
2, its taken 20 years of us being mediocre for you to catch up
3, we've won the european cup 5 times.
4, fergie is not a cyborg so will retire one day soon.

    YNWA!!!!

    Thats my rant

Re: Premier League 10/11- Discussion Thread

and he had us competing in the top three a place which we didnt really have the funds to be
Dan...you MUST be joking, or at least blinded by loyalty.

Benitez squandered a fortune on incredibly mediocre players.
I kno we (Arsenal), haven't won anything for 5 years, but we have always put up a decent challenge on a 1/5 of what Benitez spent.....and we are still doing it.

The downfall of Liverpool had 2 very obvious contributing factors:
    1. Souness having no idea how to be a manager at a Premier League football club
    2. Benitez being about as good in the transfer market, as Gary Glitter would be at running a childrens home.
The CL win only papered over very obvious cracks in the team. Bar Gerrard and Reina, no other player current in the Liverpool side would get anywhere near another top 6 side.
Even Torres wouldn't as firstly he looks disinterested (who can blame him), and secondly, you only get a 1/3 of a season from him because of his chocolate leg.

    Wolves and West Ham? Absolutely.
