    Re: World of Tanks

I can honestly say I'm quite addicted to WoT. Been playing since before Xmas and I have a KV-3, PzKpfw II Luchs (Elite), Stugg III (Elite) and a JagdPz IV.

Being able to use free gold for premium account benefits really makes a difference so I'm tentatively waiting to see what the costs are at launch. It can be a real grind when you first get a new tank because the basic loadout is usually not enough to damage anything in the battles it puts you in. It's most frustrating knowing that you might aswell be throwing spit-wads at that IS-3 bearing down on you.

The matching system can be a bit off the mark, often you'll get put in a battle where you can literally be one-shotted by everything on the other side, and others you get put in one where you can one-shot everything on the enemy team.

Great game to just pick up for half an hour for a few matches and put down again. Although that, "just one more battle" factor is very hard to resist!

    Re: World of Tanks

After Rox has raved about this for the past couple of months I gotta admit that I'm intrigued. Whether I'll get time to play it before SWTOR comes out is another matter - I suspect once I complete DA2 I'll be playing Shogun 2, then maybe another run through DA2 as a warrior. Then maybe a run through as a mage. Then a rogue again.

Seriously though, I like the idea of an MMO that I can happily only plough 30 mins or so at a time into, I doubt I'll be playing too much more WoW.

Fully agree there with both points
yes I was up until 5am yesterday playing

My shiney new A-20 was little more than a moving target, each team with 6 teir7-8 heavies, 1 SPG, 1 TD the rest mediums and 1 tier 4 light (me on one side)

Both us lights died very quickly, however I did get 10k credits from that match

I've upped my kill record with my tier2 TD, panzerJager, 4kills & 2 damaged, find yourself a bush with a good field of fire, elevated position over looking the area tanks are progressing down, as they spot enemies you snipe them.
As long as the enemy tanks don't get too close you'll not be seen on the enemy mini-map making it hard for artillery to find you.
My advice is also get the biggest gun as quickly as possible, load out with both AP and HE, use HE on light tanks AP on medium, you can use the team list (it's in tank rank order) to best gage which ammo to load.

Radio is a bit fuzzy, it seem to be about the game scoring mechanic and the mini-map
Turrent gives you the sight range. Radio gives you the communication range. Imagine circles around each tank. If they overlap the other tanks "connected" can see what you are seeing on the map and on the field.
it's also part of the credit/xp system, you get small amounts for being a link in the chain passing on radio info.
One good thing about lights they make good spotters and radio beacons for artillery.

    Re: World of Tanks

Had my first play with artillery last night, had a bit of a grin with it. ended up defending the base using direct fire at close range, took out 2 heavy tanks in quick sucession from about 100 yards. Main wepon of choice is tank hunter at the moment, whatever the first USSR one is you get.

    Re: World of Tanks

Quite like my T3 TD (Marder II). The main gun can move around a bit more which is handy. Even though I'm normally at the bottom of the list, the 75mm cannon can do some decent damage against most tanks, but does struggle with heavies and higher TDs face-on. Also dies quickly. Just need to grind the credits for the next TD. It's annoying that it takes gold to convert the XP from other tanks. My elite T2 TD has 5000xp, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to convert that to something more useful.

The great thing about the Marder is that with the 76mm cannon, it can blow up anything below T5 without any trouble if you're not spotted. Against T5, more specially, the T1 and KV1, you have to aim at weak points as the T1's lower frontal is sloped and the turret too heavily armoured. For the KV1, I'd recommend tracking it and than hammering it with everything you have.

Got the Hetzer now. The 60 front armour is nice and handy. I haven't changed the gun yet but I am now being put up against more heavy tanks.

How is the Hetzer with the best engine? Before the patch it had a horrible weight/power ratio and was very slow as a result.

You don't have to spend gold to convert the xp on an elite tank
Once you hit elite open up the research screen and you should now have a convert button, you can convert xp into free xp without costing any gold, for that tank only

Another good thing about TD's you can carry the crew across.
move the old crew into the barracks, get the new tank without crew, then reassign the crew to the new TD, the % will be in red as they are not trained for that TD, select the personal file for each, go to the training (I think) tab, there you can retrain that crew member.
Hit the current tank button to select the TD they are in, now you can ether spend 200gold to fully train to 100% in that tank, 20,000 credits to train them up to 75% if they where below 75%, if they where above 75% they will lose a few % no more than 76%, ie if they where 80% in the old tank they should now be about 76% or 77% in the new one.
Same thing with the free 50% training, but they will lose more but it will still be over 50%
When I moved from my panzerjager to my mader I took my crew across as I'd recently trained the gunner to 75%, I used the free move and he came across at 61%
Also if you change tank type they lose more points, but as all tiers of TD are still TD's you don't have that problem.

I'm getting close to 256k credits I need for the T-34 but still far from the 12000xp I need to unlock it
Currently rotating between the mader and my A20, the russian medium route is a real grind.

Compared to the German medium route, the Russian one is nothing ie 3001p - Stock Panther - Stock Panther II (prepatch)

I must be missing something then. When I click the convert button, it costs me 1 gold for each 25 free experience. Same thing when I go through the "convert experience" on the main screen, although that lists all tanks. Just realised I sold my T2 TD with 5,000xp before converting. Oops!

Yes, the Hetzer is bloody slow with the basic engine, but a lot better with the best upgraded engine (220hp vs 100hp).

I made the mistake of selling a KV (although buying a KV in the first place is the biggest mistake!) with crew onboard that all had around 85% camo skill and the tank had a camo net and periscope still fitted. You only make that sort of mistake once I can tell you....

Got my Hetzer last night and then got killed by an evil KV head on so I suppose it was my own fault; I only managed to 'dink' him.

Thinking of getting some premium ammo. The PzKpfw IV with the 10.5cm gun looks popular. I messed up my upgrade path so will probably not have time to get one.
