There seems to be a lot of people saying this is really good, so I've signed up. Just downloading the client.
Anyone got any tips for a new player with regards to what tank to use/upgrade/research etc?
You only have a couple of weeks till launch and hard wipe so just have a bit of fun with it. Try all three classes of tank (Tank, Tank Destroyer and Artillery) and see what tickles your fancy before you commit to a path on launch.
You can most certainly make your way up to about tier V or even tier VI before launch but I wouldn't put any serious time to it knowing you'll lose everything on launch day.
It's down to personal use. Personally, I would stick to the German and Russian tree as the American tree isn't quite fully fleshed out yet. You get 250 gold a day during beta which can be used for various things. If you're playing for most of the day, then it might be worth spending all the gold for one day's premium where you get 50% more XP and money. Alternatively, I used the first days gold for credits (you get 400 for each gold, so that's 100k all in), to help upgrade the starting tanks quicker. After you complete the first tank research, try a TD and artillery and see if they take your fancy.
Point to note; the 250 gold per day is only during the beta. At launch you have to fork out money for premium benefits from gold.
Russian heavies are less frustrating to drive as they tend to have good (sloped) armour , very good mobility and the biggest gun (exception is the T30 but that thing has "no" hull armour). They don't suffer from weak/huge gun mantels and can't catch fire as easily as their transmission boxes are in the rear (a limitation of the game is that if your transmission box gets hit, you might get an engine fire).
Depends on how much time you can sink into it, initially money will be a little tight, however that very quickly changes to xp shortage imo
mainly because credits are shared over all your tanks, so you can use one or two as your money makers, but xp you can only really make on one tank (yes you can convert it into but that costs you gold and total xp)
within a few hours you should be able to get a tier2 tank without spending gold, however progression does start slowing down a lot at tier4
if you don't have much time to put into it, not much point in going for the heavies, it'll take to long and you'll get wiped before hand.
I'd say it's worth spending the 250 gold on daily premium account the amount of credits you can rack up is high.
ok probably not 100k worth at first, but there's also the xp to think of

well, I joined up a couple of days ago. 1stRaven is anyone sees me on there.
Yeah I've started to notice that after I went back to my BT-2 and got 7 kills. I thought that was a bit lucky so I paid more attention and realised I wasn't up against heavy gear.
I've been persevering with the BT-7 (unlocked the A20 but don't have the cash for it yet) just to level the radio up as I can use this on the A20 when I buy it.
had a wee go in the AT-1 and can see its usefulness but it can be a bit tiresome waiting for it to move.
Tempted to try out an arty but I'm trying to save my pennies for the A20.
I have been reading up a bit on this today and am looking forward to getting home and giving it a go.
From what I've seen, you start off with all three T1 tanks for USSR, Germany and USA. Each one is a light tank, which are fast, weak and underpowered. The main use for them is "spotting" enemies and taking out other light tanks and arties. Is that correct?
Right, so after battles, you get exp and credits. Exp is used to research and credits are used for purchases, yes? So, if I say wanted to get the best light tank in the game, which I think people are saying is the Leopard, the best plan would be to research the Germany tree to unlock that tank, right? But I can still gain exp and credits using any tank I have. I also read that engine, suspension and radio are the most important upgrades, as well as a camo net and the camouflage skill learnt by your crew men. What is the best way to get these upgrades?
I guess I will understand it more once I start playing, but with games like these, I don't like wasting exp or currency going down the "wrong path" for what I want.
I also don't quite understand how you can use exp from one tank on others when you reach a certain level with that tank. They did call it something in a video, but I'm afraid I've forgotten. Like when you max out a tank, you can change the exp into free exp and use it on another tank. How does this help?
When you've researched everything on a tank, it gets the "Elite" status. You can then use the XP to accelerate the rate your crew trains, or just let it gather normally. You can then convert that tank's XP into Free XP at 25xp for 1 gold. Free XP can then be used on any tank, including ones you don't own I think (about to try this out by going the Russian heavy route and skipping a tank or two). In Beta this isn't too much of a problem, but when the game goes live this could be a PITA as you would have to spend realy money to transfer XP between tanks.
BTW, despite being light tanks, the first tanks aren't fast! You are probably going to level two tanks in parallel as you can keep going when one of them is destroyed. As for wasting XP, it's all going to be wiped in a couple of weeks, so might as well get a taste of everything now.
Playing two or three tanks is something a lot of people don't realise; if you get destroyed in a battle you don't have to sit and wait till the end of the round. Simply exit the battle and jump in one of your other tanks in another battle. Your first tank will only become available to you in your garage once that battle has ended.

Believe me, once you get to tier IV you start getting thrown up against the kind of enemies you simply can't dent. That's until you've managed to grind enough insta-death battles to get some decent upgrades to survive as the lowest in the food chain. That's when it pays to have two or three tanks on the go just to mix it up and not feel utterly depressed about not being able to damage anything in your shiny new Hetzer.
That and it's the most efficient way to grind credits.
I just tried the T-46 (Russian T3 light tank), and it is suicidal; and it can't even do that well as it's slow. Your best hope is to discover lots of enemies, get the spotting points, die and go and play with some artillery or TD until the battle is over and hope you've won. I'm waiting until tomorrow's gold to get the credits to get the next tank, T-28 (T4 medium). Not expecting much better TBH.
Fitted the 10.5cm to my Hetzer so I can at least damage stuff I get put up against. I one shot lower tier lights and mediums. A few times I've hidden round a building, have a medium tank come flying by and get 1-shotted by me! I've also invested in a camo-net and trained my commander to 100% and start camo training.
The T28 is a fantastic tank, I had a lot of fun with that.
i hop between T1 German, and T3 German Arty. the t1 tank battles are the most fun and carefree, and the Arty is the best i can get at the mo. so much fun when people work as a team to spot targets though.
