    Re: World of Tanks

Camo nettting doesn't seem to do much for you on it's own, stack it ontop of the comm skill and you can remain hidden over quite a distance.
The main bonus coming from the skill I believe.
However the moment you fire you greatly increase your chance of being spotted.
Also be careful in TD's moving or rotating your tank cancels the camo bonus for a short time.

I'm starting to wonder if a premium account also affects the matches you get, I've not bought mine for a couple of days so I can get a 3day account for less gold and I've not been in any all heavy matches with my A20 since

@Allen, the 3 starting tanks are just bad, but you'll only ever be up against other starting tanks or tier 2 light tanks, as Gerrard said, they are not fast, have tissue thin armour and wimpy guns (well a couple of the upgraded guns are ok)
My issue with the Leopard is that that tree path goes no where, it a very good light tank, I'd say it's a toss up between the A20 and the Leopard as to which is best
The A20 is slightly faster, but the Leopard is smaller, has more HP, more armour, slightly faster turret.
The A20 can mount a more powerful 75mm gun but the rate of fire is less and the penetration is the same as the Leopard's 50mm
But the big thing the A20 has going for it is that it leads on to the T-34 and then the other soviet medium tanks.

Both the A20 and Leopard are the true scouting tanks IMO

EDIT: I didn't bother with the expensive radio on my bt7 (that thing is 22k in credits and 5600research and it's part of the A20 upgrades) I funded buying the A20 mainly with my panzerjager TD

    Re: World of Tanks

Gave this ago last night on my laptop and loved it Installing on my main rig at the moment, although it's not a lot higher spec than my lappy.

Not really sure what I'm doing at the moment, I think I wasted 200 gold on training the crew for something. I have the first German tank to elite status after a few battles in which I only managed to get 3 kills I'm saving for the next tank at the mo.

When this releases I guess everything will be reset? Is there going to be a sub or an initial outlay? Or just a free download and micro payments? Anyone know when it's out? Sorry for all the questions

    Re: World of Tanks

It's released on 12th April, everything will be reset and I believe it'll be free with micro payments to buy gold. Also, it's not just about kills. You can actually get more money/XP damaging a tank to 25% than getting the killing shot. It also takes into account tier difference, so pounding on a higher tier can net you fair amount even if you're only doing 10% damage a shot.

Camo netting is quite effective if you pay attention to the requirements, you need to be perfectly still; including the turret. More importantly that also includes the barrel on TD. The amount of people I see hidden in bushes with the barrel sweeping left and right just makes me want to shoot them myself.

The easy way to scan the horizon without compromising camo is to set your external view to max zoomed out, set your 'internal' view to max zoomed in, then switch to external once in position ie. a bush, then hold down the right mouse button and move around looking for targets. So long as you keep the right mouse button held down your turret/barrel will remain still but you can still see all around. Then once you have a target simply tap shift to see the gunner's view and light 'em up!

    Re: World of Tanks

Got to be top dog in my hetzer and bagged 7. Thought I was beginning to get good; then the usual tripe I serve up began.

I can't stop over extending myself as an A20 where I'm bottom of the chain and get taken out very quickly.

Saving up my gold to buy a premium heavy tank before the trial runs out.

I have the T3 Arty as well (Sturmpz II) and quite like it. It's mobile enough to keep up with a group so you don't get left behind and outflanked. Could do with holding more ammo though; I've been close to running out a couple of times beating down on heavies.

WRT to premium tanks, I might get a Churchill. Came across a Matilda in my Hetzer and that thing can take a beating! The annoying thing was it couldn't damage me head-on, but slowed me down enough for another tank to come and kill me. Even worse, I had got the Matilda down to 1% when I died!

For those starting anew, join a clan

You'll get lots of help on opinions and discussion on tanks etc, you'll have people to play with in platoons or companies, and chat to on voice comss etc. And no clan should have entry requirements currently because of the impending resets.

KIA clan are looking for people, we got 35 or so very active people currently, teamspeak has about 5-10 on most nights, but that will change on release and be 20-30, and we are fully prepped for the Clan War beta that is coming soon.

Come say Hi in game, channel KIAPub (no password), or join our foums and post in the public section.

    Re: World of Tanks

Had a go last night, have to admit, it's pretty damn good! Ran about in the Leichttraktor and the MS-1, enough to get both of them up to elite status. I prefer the Leichttraktor, it's actually really nice. Think I played about a dozen games, won almost all of them and even managed to get several kills and survive most fights.

I then purchased 2 tier 2 light tanks, the PzKpfw II and the T-26 and I proceeded to get my backside handed to me, probably because I was then going up against some higher tier tanks with all the upgrades, not sure. But I still managed to get an award for apparantly killing 10 tier 4 tanks... dunno how!

KIAEddZ, are you the same KIAEddz from EVE? The CEO of the KIA Alliance? If so, I've probably fought alongside you with some FCON buddies in the past... Would be nice to play in WoT with you guys as well. I may not play too much before release because there isn't a lot of reason to right now, apart from getting experience and learning the maps/vehicles, but I'll defo give you guys a shout soon.

Ah yes you are right here, Netting bonus is broken for any movement.
Bush bonus is broken for body movement only, you can turn your turret. Note see stationary base chance.
Camouflage skill bonus is always on
Stationary base chance is broken by movement or turret movement, TD's guns can be moved without breaking it.

I had the cammo netting bonus mixed up with the bush bonus, no wonder I didn't seem to get much from it.
however the camo skill is still far better than the netting, it's +20% at full and on at all times

No they don't do they. Looks like this could be an expensive distraction... I wonder how much you have to pay to refill your gold once it goes live? Might have to give it a miss if they are charging silly money.

    Re: World of Tanks

Good grief, those prices are insane!!

I bet some mugs will pay it though.

george1979, if you look, the prices are for the gold, you just get the tank free as a pre-order gift. And even then it says "buy gold for special price" meaning it'll probably cost even more after release...

For those who can't see the site or login for whatever reason, here's the prices:

    £32/€38 = 12,500 gold + free A-32 Premium T4 Light Tank
£47/€56 = 18,700 gold + free PzKpfw V/IV (not listed on the WoT Wiki yet) Premium T5 Medium Tank
£63/€75 = 25,000 gold + free M6A2E1 (not listed on the WoT Wiki yet) Premium T8 Heavy Tank

    Re: World of Tanks

the big question is - is it possible to play without gold and /not/ be at a disavantage? are these premium tanks, and others that will require gold to purchase just better? can putting in the hours make up for the gold quick fix?

They are going to rake it in from a small collective of obsessives (someone on the forum has pre-ordered the heavy AND the medium), while the rest of us will try for a bit with basic tanks and maybe the odd "cheapest+smallest lump you can buy" of gold until we realise its an arms race and arms cost money. and we were never /that/ into the game to begin with.

Am reading the official forums, expecting more whining TBH... can't believe the amount of people saying they are buying all 3 packages!!

I'll have just as much fun playing for free than others, plus I will get that extra sweet feeling of killing someone's "premium" tank with my normal one and have no feelings of "I only won that fight coz I was sad enough to pay for internet tonks with real money".

for a game i hadn't heard of a week ago it has a really good following, and from playing it i can see why - it is actually really pretty nice, and happens to fall into a niche that will suck in people that like WWII millitary sims, and tank nuts especially very easily. it is their nirvana.

trouble is, is the one premium kill now and again going to counter the fact you can never win a one on one vs a premium tank unless the other guy is an idiot? it wouldn't for me, the losses even though i was making every shot count and being the first to fire but just not having the tools would wear me down pretty quickly.
