This isn't true. Converting XP gained on a tank that is Elite costs gold.

Also just because you dont own the tank anymore doesnt mean you cant convert XP gained on it using gold.

Just checked and you're right about not needing to own the tank to keep the XP; that's handy! I think I'll keep the 7.5cm gun for now as I prefer the better accuracy compared to the 10.5cm and wait until the 8.8cm is available; but that's not until the JagdPz IV.

    Re: World of Tanks

I have a T54, Panther 2, IS7 and T32 etc etc, but most fun I have had has been grinding up the Russian TD line, the SU-152 and ISU-152 default gun is simply awesome, with HE loaded it virtually never fails to damage any tank, and insta pops tier 5 and below quite often, its only beaten by the BL10 which tbh is crazy good.

In TD's stick to HE ammo, its a hell of a lot more fruitful.

    Re: World of Tanks

    Russian medium tree
    MS-1 > BT-2 light tank 22,400c > BT-7 light tank 90,300c > A-20 light tank 197,700c > T-34 medium 256,700
There is the T-28 which you can get earlier but that's part of the heavy branch not the medium branch
    German branch tree is
Leichttraktor > PzKpfw III Ausf. A light tank 79,700c > PzKpfw III medium 182,500c
The PzKpfw III & the next one PzKpfw IV also form the primary branching point for both the medium and heavy tanks.
Where as with the Russians you have to go right back to the starting point of the MS-1 if you want to change from medium to heavy
I don't know what the research cost is to unlock the panzer3 but the t-34 is 21,000 xp points , that not to elite the a-20 that's just to unlock the t-34 once you've got the bits before it.
considering I think it was 6130xp to unlock the a20 that's a big jump.
found the panzer 3 unlock cost it's 5555

EDIT: One of the mods and one of the players was chatting about the ISU the other day, seems there's one major problem with it, Ammo cost, at over 1,000 credits a shot you can easily come out of games in debt, even though you win and score a lot of kills.
Main issue that comes from this is some odd behaviour of the auto ballance, that means an ISU can end up in medium&light tank battles, which means the combination of less money per kill, less mission bonus (both because you are far higher tier) and faster moving harder to hit enemies, so more misses.

He'd just come out of one such game, almost nothing on the field could damage him, he racked up 9 kills, his side won and he came out of it 12k in debt.

    Re: World of Tanks

mixing up 1 game tank, 1 game artillery is the most fun way to do it as far as i can see. trouble is i never seem to have a good spotter when im artillery, and never have any artillery when im a light tank spotter.

1 shotting people from across the map when they are sitting there minding their own business though great game.

But I'm normally dead before I get very far.

one thing I've discovered is that in the higher levels it's more tatical, if you just charge in you're dead.

Bushes are your friends, when you park in a bush it greatly reduces the distance before the enemy can see you.
Try not to run into trees, if a tree falls in the forest and there's no tank in sight, then lob a shell at it because a tank is hiding there.

Made 130k, need 170k for the A-20, then another 256k for the t-34, very tempted to say stuff it and go with the tank destroyer route instead.
Yeah I'm finding this with the BT-7. I actually like the BT-2 as I've had a bit of joy with it. My crew are at 80% and can usually at least do some damage (got 4 kills in a couple of games). The BT-7 seems to have all of the drawbacks of its little brother but no appreciable benefits. Its quicker but not hugely so but its a bigger target. I really want to level it up to get the medium tanks too but I keep going back to the smaller version with better crew and using the free xp to level the BT-7 up. Its a long slog but I rarely last long in the 7 so its more enjoyable this way.

    Re: World of Tanks

Just seen this over on the WoT forums on how the balancer works: -

Takes a bit to work it out, but basically, the biggest the BT-2 goes against is T3 Mediums, but for the BT-7 it goes all the way upto T5 heavies. It also explains how I'm sometimes top of the list in my T4 TD (ie Battle Tier 4 fight), and sometimes at the bottom against T7 tanks.

Zak, it'll be free after release, so no hurry. It's just that you accumulate gold during beta per day which you would have to buy after release (there's a wipe for release as well so you can't horde it all for release). However, there is one major disadvatage is that you need to pay to have a premium account, which in turns allows you to make/join a clan. Even then, you can only ever go into a random battle with three of you at a time.

Well that's the theory however it doesn't explain how you can get a tier 1 (yes a starting tank) into a game full of heavies
Yes that's right while my A20 is often the only light tank on the map, sometimes you get a single tier 10 tank turning up.

I've kept my MS1 and I still hop onto it now and again in the hope that I can be that tank!
Just for pure fun I want to see how long I could survive.

Part of the balance issue is artillery and TD's often when I'm the only light tank on the map it's because of a tier 4 TD or SPG on the enemy side, but both can do far more damage than I can.

    @george1979
The BT7 has a big chunk more armour and HP too, the problem is you start going up against higher tier tanks, so while you've gone up in armour, hp, speed, gun power tghe enemies have jumped far more so overall your survivability has gone down.
The A20 I am finding easier because I gong up against far harder tank than I did with the BT7
Mainly because I'm in such a hopeless position that I just run fast scouting runs for the artillery, with good support you can make serious xp and credits
The big problem with the A20 is the tracks, I constantly lose my tracks (when I'm not one shotted by a tiger2 or ISU) even other light tanks do it to me and loss of speed is a deathnell to the A20, immobilised and your crew might as well get out as you're dead.
It's got a nice 76mm which works well against tanks around tier4, however it's slow to fire and still cannot cut it against the big boys I keep ending up against.

    He either:
    Didn't use premium
Got the kill but did little damage (more damage = more cash)
Or a combination of the two above.

The thing with the ISU is that with the BL10, you can knock off half the HP of T8s and 20-40%s of T9-10 using a single AP shot with almost no trouble if you avoid shots at places that have slopes. ~1500 a shot is well worth the price considering that you kill T6 and below with a single shell.

If you are using premium, it's almost impossible to make a loss unless you drive that coffin known as Tiger.

    Re: World of Tanks

No what happened was that he ended up in a match full of tanks lower tier than him, when a map is full of tier5-6 tanks an ISU can one shot anything and few of them have a gun powerful enough to penetrate your armour unless they hit one of the special hit boxes.
The tier5-6 tanks are far smaller and faster moving than the high tier heavies which makes hitting them more tricky, and when you do kill them the tier difference means you'll get far less credits per kill.

The tier difference has a big effect on both xp and credits, that's why even though I tend to die more quickly in my A20 when I'm in matches against far higher tier tanks and I have little hope of even managing to damage one, I still come out with more credits and xp than from the matches when I'm in with tanks around my tier even though I do damage and kill stuff.

As to premium ammo, I wonder how many people will continue to use it once it starts costing you real money?
How much gold per shot does it cost an ISU?

EDIT: if the game turns into you have to spend real money to be able to defeat enemies, then I'll not bother with it.

The tier5-6 tanks are far smaller and faster moving than the high tier heavies which makes hitting them more tricky, and when you do kill them the tier difference means you'll get far less credits per kill.
I once killed a M7 moving at full speed from 550meters with a 0.37 accuracy 105mm gun. My point is, being fast and small doesn't make hitting them more tricky as you get used to where you have to aim at, especially if you use high calibre and inaccurate guns. (Using autoaim doesn't help)

and few of them have a gun powerful enough to penetrate your armour
Considering that the ISU has 90mm of front armour, even the 75mm L43 can penetrate with a reasonable success rate. 75mm L70, 88 L56, all 85mms and higher will go through it like butter unless you hit it at an extreme angle.

The tier difference has a big effect on both xp and credits, that's why even though I tend to die more quickly in my A20 when I'm in matches against far higher tier tanks and I have little hope of even managing to damage one
Should have driven the Soviet heavy line. T-28 with 85mm is quite strong for a T4, KV is just lol as far as the cannon and turret armour is concerned. Thing is, low tier mediums in high tier battles can either be used for suicidescouting/arty spotting or escort for heavier tanks. If you use the 76mm gun, you must use HE only as AP will bounce on pretty much everything except other scouts that are not Pz3 or Leopard.

As to premium ammo, I wonder how many people will continue to use it once it starts costing you real money?
How much gold per shot does it cost an ISU?
Out of all tanks and cannons, why use premium ammo on an ISU with the BL10? It already has the best penetrating AP shell in the whole game.

What I meant by premium is the gold you pay for 1.5*xp&credits per battle for a given timeframe.
