Wow u guys seem very hostile to ATI , to be honest I think you are missing the bigger picture. ATI does not make that much profit, Nvidia still makes much more cash.
To survive it ATI needs big partners with whom to do business. It makes BUSINESS sense for ATI to align itself with microsoft (for obvious reasons). Like i said it is doing the XBOX 2 graphics so they obviously have a Vested interest in working closely with Microsoft. Therefore to help make MCE a big player with much better graphics and probably a much wider installed base makes sense.ATI will sell more via ready built systems or people can add to their own.
You guys represent a pretty small demographic of Hardcore users, you aint gonna come first in a business decision!!
Most people want to press a button and play their machine, they have no interest in : Bitrates, Avi files, compression blah blah blah , most people think this stuff is for geeks who have a PHD in Tv recording! They just wanna watch TV and record it
They want an Easy to use system that WORKS!! and has a great picture, no fuss and no worries, and WHO CAN blame them!!
MCE 2005 works very well, I am pretty PC capable so i can build and test etc, but my wife cannot, she just wants something that works and can be relied upon.
MCE 2005 delivers the goods!
Whether you like it or not the Hardcore are NOT the future, BUSINESS WISE!!
and that is what this is a BUSINESS decision . DONT TAKE IT PERSONALLY!!
ATI are just a compnay like any other TRYING to make MOOHLAH!!
Peace and love!!
Not hostile towards ATI, just upset at False advertisement. Like I said before, how would you feel if you saw an advertised product stating what it can do and what kind of benefits you can get from it. You buy the product on this advertised hype, but when you get it, it doesn't do what they said it could do. Even when it's in the manual that the product came with. Are you going to be okay with that? 'Cause if you are, I got some nice land I could sell you and boy, what a view it has.... believe me, it is nice, I can even print up some brochures for you to look at.... come on now .. be for real...Originally Posted by spacded
Here's a link by satnav4 on the page that states MMC support, just in case you missed it:
MMC support
The page after that states how to start MMC.....
So, it's okay to lie to your customer base that you have a product that can do certain things, but can't deliver on it, just as long as you made your fast buck?ATI are just a compnay like any other TRYING to make MOOHLAH!!
Peace and love!!

***Why are you running, you're only going to die tired...***
There must be a good reason why they dropped support for MMC (If indeed they really did) because it says MMC support all over...
You're at least a year behind on ATI's big picture. The last 2 quarters, ATI had much higher revenues and profits than Nvidia. They went past Nvidia about 3 quarters ago. Go check out yahoo finance.Originally Posted by spacded
I for one am not hostile towards ATI -- I have 4 PC's and all 4 have ATI graphic cards -- I just think they are making a huge mistake by letting people judge their best Theatre chip product by the piece of crapola software that ships with it.
And I'm not happy that I bought a 550pro card that's practically useless because of ATI's apparent decision to not make MMC work with it.
Andrzej--is that you pretending to be "spacedead"?Originally Posted by spacded
Give me a break. A guy steals from you--you report him to the police--then officer "spacedead" arrives on the scene and says: "Why did you make him steal from you; you know he meant to steal from someone else."
Please go back to the ATI picnic, roast a dog, and leave the rest of us alone.
Thanks and have a great day-------IN WONDERLAND!

Sorry. I was just having some fun. I know it is not Andrzej and I appreciate his time answering our questions.Originally Posted by myth

Hopefully our concerns will be relayed back to the head MMC devs though...

Then how did Intervideo or Cyberlink get software working for it? I can even view the TV source off VideoLan and that has no specific support for the 550 whatsoever except that it can read capture devices...
Andrzej: Can you tell us the reason for the BIG price difference between the ATi and the sapphire/powercolour cards? Is it only because of the better remote control supplied with the ATi, or are the cards actually different?
If the cards are NOT different; when ATi releases a driver update, will it work with ALL the cards (like the video cards), or we'd have to download a driver for each specific card (Theatrix, TV Wonder Elite, etc)?
Thank you.

I've got to agree that bashing Andrzej isn't going to lead to anything. He is doing his best to supply info that's correct at time of writing.
The errors we've seen ATi commit are not unusual. At least, I work with software developers as part of my job and I see nothing unusual here. As I said before, marketing quite often publishes and markets a wish list as a way of forcing the hand of the bean counters and the dev.
And it's not just marketing that has stated in big capital public letters to its partners that ATi's flagship in-house software will run the card. Quite a few parties at ATi find themselves in an awkward spot with their partners over this.
So if ATi Do The Right Thing, the question is quite simple: when are they going to plan this dev?
Just a little hint as to this timeline...
Of course, there is still the large possibility that ATi say "piz on 'em all, we're not doing it", and they cut an appropriate check to their partners for any eventual legal issues and wash their hands of the whole sorry mess.
I'm 50/50 on the probability of this. Two simple facts:
-When push comes to shove, the MCE market will generate enough revenue for them to ignore, financially, any litigation over false advertising.
-In an open court the partners could never blame ATi for it: because do that and ATi will drop you from the partner list faster than you can say "550 pro".
