You might have hit the nail on the head, but I hope that it’s possible to open the case and not invalidate the warranty.Originally Posted by Kez

I meant like the RPM of the hard driveOriginally Posted by Stoo
Well, to be fair to Apple, that's about the only thing they don't mention..

it's only the HDD speed that's not mentioned..Originally Posted by apple webby
looking at that, there's not enough room for a full size hdd, so it's likely to be a laptop drive.

As well as the CD writing speed...

Just trying to get confirmation of the drive rpm

Reports from people that have been to the show are saying that it runs faster than the current powerbooks, that would seem to indicate that it's using a 5400RPM drive as they're not having to worry about power consumption..

Maybe something like this then...?

I liked this to start with then put together what I wanted, ie the ability to write dvd's, wireless network, bigger HD and the extra RAM, then realised I could have a laptop for the same price. Might be tempted when I fully sus out output to TV and hopefully optical digital sound output, can it be done??
Yeah, although Hitachi also produce 5400 rpm 2.5" drives.
5400rpm was an option on the powerbook etc even for the larger drives.
Yep, it's still an option on the pb to get an 80gb 5400rpm drive, so I'd guess that the mac mini does indeed contain a 5400rpm drive.
I do believe you can actually get 7200rpm 2.5" drives now as well tho?
Yer you can Coco
Well...sounds good! Very good in fact, the difference from 42 to 54 is a lot (but then I went from a 20Gb Tosh to a 40Gb Seagate Momentus with 8Mb cache) whereas 54 to 72 is supposed to not be anything like as much.
I won't believe it 'til I see it, though! Can't see it being 8Mb cache either, but I'm looking forward to being wrong!!
I THINK 7200 laptop drives actually came out before 5400?? Weren't many people doing 54 to start with. 54 Momentus actually beat the 72 (Hitachi, IIRC) in a couple of tests and general overall performance wasn't far off at all..
Well Hello!
