Just picked one up from a local games shop for £49.99. I'm not a serious modder, and when it comes to wiring and soldering, I prefer to stay well away from them.

For those of you that have or are using the composite input, can you please tell me what cables you are using? Can you get S-video to composite cables?

Can't get mine to work off the AV with the power adapter Had a look on BT's forum and many people have had this same problem. Unless the DCC pin has 5v passing through it (which is done with the VGA mod), then the UK's PAL version won't power on at all even to adjust the brightness of the screen (with or without AV input).

So, guess that mean I'll have to buy a soldering iron and an extra VGA cable and get down and dirty with it.

My next project is to buy the voltage regulator and create the circuit to run it from the PSU.

I'm still waiting on the forum from which the guide originates, for confirmation that it will work properly.

I believe maplin sell voltage regulators that sit in a PCI slot running off your PSU for about 8 quid - might be worth a look.
Now go away before I taunt you a second time.

Skobites, what settings are you using running it off composite? I've finally managed to power it up (with DCC off 5v off PSU as well as the power adapter), but can't get any picture onto it.

I think ive got a good working regulator idea, using fixed regualtors, will test when my maplins order arrives.

David if you still want one I should be able to get you the screen for £37.50 by abusing my friends employees discount @ game , and solder it up for vga mod, and possibly cut out a nice shiny alu bezel for it for a little bit more. Also what gfx card you use? *may* be able to find the working timings for you too... (very gfx card dependant). Pm me if you want one still.

any 5v to the dcc pin will power up the screen so that even without a video signal, the volume and brightness *should* work. If they dont, something could be wrong. the 7.5v power does need to be connected, just incase I made that unclear in the last centance..
I used a normal playstation to test mine, but you need to move the power connector on the screen else it gets in the way of the ps casing (doesnt happen with ps_one consoles).

Rythmic - look at maplin for the LM317T variable regulator (code UF27E) you will then need 2 small capacitors 10nf i think, and a pot to adjust it, any 10k should be good enough, and then a heatsink from the heatsink page, at a guess one rated for 5w with any stuidly high or nice low c/w rating should be fine. A search on google reveals how to wire it up (to-220 package for pin layout). using multimeter set the regulator to 7.5 with no load, that should keep it within spec when used with the LCD as it doesnt draw much load. Youd be best getting the 2A rated 317, as it would provide more stabilty over temperuature.

    These:

HTH I've not even tried powerstrip as I'm not sue if it will make any difference.
I didn't get anything with just the power connected, the vol and brightness did not work until I had it connected to my pc and the tv-out working.

without +5v dc going to the dcc pin, you will get nothing, although the screen my go darker, none of the buttons will work. not sure if composite gives 5v dcc I assumed u needed 5v from another source while using tv out.....

you will want to set the res to 720*576 if your using a european lcd screen, which pal-i suggests you do it may work on 640*480 with ntsc or both but propbably wont look nearly as good...

Power strip takes hours of fiddliong before you will get anywhere, and it will not help unless you are using vga mode to drive the screen...

VGA mod can be done without takign the casing off the screen, by soldering to the connectors or making a plug for the vga cable, though Im unsure of the pin outs atm.

If anyone wants a guide I will try suming up all the lcd stuff tomorrow...

I'm beginning to think my LCD is dead.

I get the same as Skobite with the power and signal thing, but no picture via the VGA or AV input.

I'll try it tomorrow with my 9700pro (was using LeadTek FX5900Ultra), and see if a miracle will happen. If not, may have to fork out more money to get anther one.

....does anyone want to mod my one, I will pay good money for it!!!! Since I did buy a Lian Li case esp for this, and are half way modding it!!!!

I am beginning to suspect its not my LCDs fault, but the cables I'm using to connect it to the PC. Just tried both the LCD and another little mini-TV on another system and nothing comes up. I did notice that when I had the mini-TV plugged in and the PC tried to detect it, the TV made a small click sound.

The lcd will not show up on the displays tab without 75ohm dummy resistors from r/g/b signal to rgb combined ground to trick the card into thinking a screen is attached.
5v to the dcc pin should turn on the screen, allowing the volume buttons to show a green slider.
If you want me to check your screen and mod it to vga send me a pm...

You totally lost me on that part (me an electronics n00b).

Are 75ohm dummy resistors any different to normal resistors? And which pin is RGB ground?

Basically modern dual head graphics cards sense a resistance to determine whether or not there's a monitor stuck on the end of that particular head. 75ohm Resistors from pin 1-6, 2-7 & 3-8 act as a dummy monitor.

However, you appear to be using composite anyway... I have always used VGA mode with mine, so I can't really suggest what to try.
