I can't bear anything other than native res tbh. But it looks great on 'high' anyway so..
As Good as You'd Hoped it Would Be
Hugely disappointed With IT
Not A Bad Game But Nothing New
I used those drivers as recommended and found they work allot better for me now with my res. A nice compromise i found was to run at 1920x1280 with no AA. Ran most of it on medium - but with a few options on high such as models/pysics (left shadows medium etc) runs great now and looks amazing. Will def get this game - nearly completed farcry now as well
Pc Spec 8800gt, e6600, 2gb pc 6400, i love the game, think it runs really well ( on dx9 ) gonna install vista tonight and see how it runs on dx10, impressed so far though.
Well, my 8800GT arrived yesteday so I removed my 7900GTX and fired up Crysis - what a difference!! Crysis is actually playable at a decent resolution now.
Its a great looking game, but I find it really needs AA enabled to look best. Makes much more difference putting that on than trying very high settings.
I think it is awesome. Especailly when you have fun with the Nuke Tank and the TAC Launcher.

B00M
Take note of this gun...
TAC Launcher
Basically you fire it...
Wait for a bit until you get one hell of an explosion...
And then you get a hell of a lot of debri flying all over the shop.
Very nice.
Wowsers - how do you get all those fancy weapons? I played through the demo pretty quick and missed all that stuff!
Download map 5 from here...

Downloaded it last night and I actually forgot to play it... oh the shame I bear. Recommended setup for me is set to all LOW. What I find funny though is that Very High is blanked out. It's like their laughing at me saying nah "We won't even bother letting you use that one. Come back when you get some proper hardware" hehe.
Even on low settings it looks very good - I can't imagine what it would look like with all the settings on Very High under DX10 . I'm getting clear vibes that this would be a fantastically awesome game when you get into it .
The "Very High" settings are a DX10 feature - well they're not because you can enable them under XP with CVARS, only you suffer framerate wise.
Just got done with that one(thief III) a month or so for the second time anyway, It's funny how you go through stages of new games and then fire up the old ones cause they're that good. How many times did you play Dues Ex , or Diablo II or for that matter how many characters do you have loaded on Oblivion.
Thief IV is a great idea, Gerreat idea as a matter of fact...
As far as the demo, I've lost the taste for food and drink waiting for the game.....That's how good it is

Well I can run it on mainly Very High. Infact, if you can run it on High and you have DX10 capabilies, you can run most the settings on Very High with little or no performance hit (in some cases, a gain).
If you want lots of cool weapons, open up the Sandbox Editor and spawn a bunch of them. Really easy.
I think this game is amazing. I am using the tweak to enable DX10 in XP, and I can't believe how good the graphics are..... I could stand and look at the graphics all day. In fact, I have been doing just that. The demo doesn't last very long, and yet I've been playing it for hours and hours, just looking at the water, swimming around and being amazed by the waves and the tiny ripples I make when I walk in it.
Not only have the graphics totally blown me away, but the actual physics behind it all is just amazing. I think seeing this game as being "just another shooter" or "Far Cry all over again", is really missing out. Maybe when played in lower graphics settings, it loses some of its appeal, but in that case, its not really fair to judge the game because you're not seeing it at its best. Even when I completely ignore the gameplay, this is an amazing game... There are no games available today which even come close to the quality of this. I think some people take a lot of this stuff for granted. I even have friends who have computing related qualifications who totally miss the point and take a lot of things for granted. Which is mad. We shouldn't be desensitised by this stuff. This isn't a movie. This isn't a scripted piece of computer animation either. This is real time gaming.
I'll try not to spoil things, but there is a modified map you can download, where you can play through the demo again, but with all the vehicles, and all the weapons enabled. I took one of the more powerful weapons and I ran over to quite a thick tree which wouldn't have been destroyable with the normal machine guns / rifles.
I shot it in the middle and it broke straight through, but not a clean break.... so the top part of the tree fell down and was still attached to the bottom half with a bit of wood still, so it fell like it had a hinge.... I then stood on the fallen bit and it snapped off. This is real time physics that just blows my mind. Its only since Halflife 2 that this has even been seen in games and I dont take it for granted. And this game takes it a step further by making an entire game with this technology at its core and attached to every object! It blows my mind. Anyway, I am then facing a tree with the top missing, but I then shoot about 1 foot from the break, and I blow the top 1 foot of the tree stump off.... It falls down and rolls down a hill with a real time shadow. I can then go over to it and pick it up! Its not an object that was added by a game designer... this was part of a tree, and I chopped it off using a gun and now im holding it my character's hand as an individual object. I then go over to the shore and I chuck it into the water. It splashes underneath, and then it floats to the surface... So not only have I created a unique object in the game world, but the engine is capable of knowing the weight of if and whether it floats or not. Not only that, but it then washes up on the shore line, and it then bobs around on the shore line as the waves lap against the sand...... Its rolling, and bobbing up and down. This is an object I created by shooting the top several inches of a tree stump (that I also made).
I then notice there are fish swimming around in the shore too. Nice attention to detail. So I shoot one of the fish and it dies, turns upside down, and then floats to the surface. As I'm chuckling and amazed.... I then see a horrible sight. Its the dead corpse of a guy I shot 20 minutes ago. He was on the pier, and I shot him and he fell in and I'd forgotten about him. His dead corpse was on the bottom and I swam down to look at it. He was dead and he was on his knees as though he was kneeling on the sea bed, but his body was upright and his arms where floating upwards..... It looked exactly how I imagine a real corpse would look.. floating on the bottom of a sea bed. Quite gross to look at but totally amazing that they have nailed the realism element of this game. It was eerie. I then swam backwards onto the shore, and I noticed that as I swam backwards, I could see my character pushing with his arms and kicking and paddling with his legs...
The models, animatons, physics, graphics, everything about it just amazing. Whatever they do with the gameplay, I can't ignore the fact that technically its just unbelievable. You can run around shooting stuff and just put all this stuff out of your mind, but then you would be as much to blame as anyone, for not seeing the beauty in the game and the impressive elements.
I then go over to the hut. I engage strength mode, and I punch the side of the hut. It smashes the entire wall down and it collapses realistically. I then punch another wall, and another, and another, and eventually the roof gave way and collapses... I then finish it off with all the other walls. I've just destroyed an entire building with my fists, like the hulk or something. I also see a wooden box. I pick it up and chuck it on the sand and it slides along the surface of the sand. I then pick it up again, and chuck it at a rock... it smashes on the rocks and smashes into pieces.
I then get in a tank and set off along the coast, a truck drives at me, guns blazing, I shoot my tank at it, and it blows the front right wheel off, and the truck spins out - exactly like a car would spin in real life it hit ice or something. Before the guys have time to react, I shoot it again, and my tank's shell hits it right square on the side. It launches the truck about 50 feet into the air and it smashes into the side of a mountain and then rolls down, with smoke and flames pouring off it. A wheel rolls off it and down the shore into the water near by. I then approach the next camp and I stealth inside. I go invisible and I sneak up to a guy and grab him by the neck. Everyone starts shooting at me and I use him as a human shield. I then go invisible again and run around the back and steal a chopper...
I fly away in the chopper and it looks as good as I would dream it would look.... I start swooping down on the guys below and doing strafing runs, shooting them with rockets. I can see them all below, looking up at me and running for cover behind anything they can... I'm firing rockets down and then I see their patrol boat approach the shore and a truck arriving to help them. I attack those too with my rockets and I blast them to pieces. Its hard to believe I'm playing a FPS, because it feels like I'm playing an awesome helicopter sim.
I then fly away and land my chopper near the last enemy camp and I get out. I pick up a barrel of gasoline and I chuck it at the enemy camp, I shoot it as its flying through the air and it catches fire.. It explodes as it lands, and it must have hit something else explosive. Theres a massive explosion and I see bodies thrown into the air. The explosion was so big that it lifted up large rocks in the area.. and I see rocks flying towards me from the force of the blast. I side step one which nearly takes my head off, and it hits the chopper that I landed next to me.. the chopper explodes and I'm blown up by the explosion.
I think this game is amazing. Technically, I'm sure you can tell, it totally amazes me. But I find it REALLY fun to play. Its a normal shooter but its a REALLY good one. But with the suit on top of that, it makes it really a lot better. When I got the hang of it, I was in charge of any battle. If there was a few guys, I could run at them so fast, they barely had time to raise their rifles. If I found myself face to face with someone, I could just smack him with the butt of my rifle, or punch him with strength mode and send him flying into next week. And if there is a whole bunch of bad guys, I can stealth around taking them out.
When I was still figuring it out, I noticed that the enemy AI coordinates proper attacks on you..... Some will come straight for you, and others with try to flank you. They are stealthy too, and they sneak up on you.
I hid behind a rock and someone chucked a grenade at me. It hit the rock and exploded and I was saved by the rock I was hiding behind. "Whew! That was close", I thought. Then a couple of seconds later, they chuck a second grenade OVER the rock, and it lands at my feet. I have to basically just dive for cover somewhere. The AI in this game is... clever.
And lastly, when you get to see the weapons and things that it didn't show you in the demo, it really shows you how the full game will be able to progress. You can use your prone mode to your advantage. Properly lying down on the floor, high up on a hillside and assaulting an outpost below you, using surprise and the range to your advantage. I won't spoil it by saying what you get, but there is a lot more than just the couple of rifles you see in the normal demo.
Amazing.

Good post - I totally agree with you. I've replayed the demo several times now, just to see the extent and detail of the world they have created. It's truly mindblowing.
