A write off, blimey! Either she was going some when she hit you, or that car was made of paper
A write off, blimey! Either she was going some when she hit you, or that car was made of paper
as u said, if the damage is higher then the vehicle amount, they will declare it a write off. i just spoke to the garage and they said my car is fixable but because the insurer says its a write off, they wont touch it
Yeh, bring back the good old bumpers - You could crash into a wall (not ever done it personally) and they would maybe crack a little - do that with a bumper today and it is a whole new bumper - they crush too easily.
True, but a soft crushable bumper means less impact for the driver.
That's not how it works. Damage doesn't have to be anywhere near the market value to be declared a write off. If i remember, its about 50%, anything close to that, then its bye bye. Most of the cost of the repair is labour, the actual parts cost will be far lower.
Its now a case of just suck it and hope you get market value, as said already start hunting for same year/model/condition in your area, and don't accept the first offer you get. Once the first offer is made will also be the time they start thinking of getting their hire car back.

If another person's insurance company say your car is a write off, are you still able to drive the car?? I'll keep it short- Taxi went into the back of my car- got £990 (paid £1200 only 9 days before the accident) Now the boot would not closed but got that sorted and it now closes. It does have some creasing where you lift the carpet up in the boot, but apparently its still ok.
Anyway, hope the insurance company don't screw you too much!!
yea my car was still perfectly drivable
That's the point, though! The more it crumples, the further distance over which the car takes to decelerate to 0 resulting in less force being applied to the dear driver/passengers in the car in accordance with Energy = 0.5mass x velocity^2 -----> E = Work Done ----> WD = force x distance
So says my faint memory of GCSE physics, at least!
Josh, they've offered you £?k. Accept the offer then ask them how much to buy the car back.
Work out the cost to put it right (ie, make the boot shut - the issue is a bent boot floor/boot catch I presume) and then decide if it's worth buying it back and fixing it up.
The only downside will be trying to sell on a Cat D (or C) write off when you decide you want a new car.
I think it's something like 80% if the car is less than 3 years old, then 50% after that, but discretionary, so they can bend the rules a little. To write off a nearly new car it has to be something major, like it's been on it's roof.
Definately start looking, when my wife's car got written off we tried contesting it, but they sent a link to an atotrader advert with a similar car and said that was their final offer. And yes, once the settlement is agreed they take the hire car back.
As a side, do you have to tell your insurers if your car is a CAT C/D ?

by your logic, im going to pay them to give back my car and pay with my own money to fix it?
they have not given me an offer yet.
If the car is mechanically fine, and they offer you £?k for it then it is clearly only worth £?k to them. So, you like the car, you want the car, you buy it back from them and get it fixed.
You've said above that you wont find a car the same as yours for the money they've offered you. Why not buy back your own car.
A lot of people do it, it's fairly common place.
let me get this straight. they give me £k and i use that same money to get my car back i presume? That is the same as me just saying give my car back and they can keep the claim money that they was going to give.
am i right so far? ok say if i do that, i still have to use MY OWN money to get my car fixed because some stupid cow doesn't know how to drive?
