My Ant Farm (Nature at work) *56k warning*

I only managed to find 4 ants to stick in it , well i say I but what i actually meant is my little brother only managed to find 4 for me

and now for a public ant owners announcement-
ATTENTION ALL ANT FARM OWNERS - they can escape!!! thats right i had 4 earlier and now there are only 3 , it would appear that they can fit throught those 2 small breather holes

When I first put my ants in, one went straght for the air holes, the booklet recommends that you cover them over for the first couple of days. Here is the latest photo of the boys in their nest

This is a really cool thread, very interesting. I'm tempted but with 3 kids they wouldnt leave it alone unortunately. Just have to stick with my aquarium housing my Convict and Carpenti Cichlids

I have a Nikon E3700, its nothing special only 3.2MP. Can't remember off hand what the ants are, but it says in the instruction manual when you get the ants through the letter box.

Harvester ants I think.

Thats is, they are yellow harvester ants.

I think they would be the more interesting ants to have - they've got a much more fiery temper than black ants. At least, the yellow (or red) ants in my back garden do. Stick a solitary black ant in there and see what happens, haha.

Yay, my antworks came to day, i sent my order form for the ants, as well as a covering letter asking to see if it was wise to feed them extra sugar etc,

Awesome, just found mine sitting under the patio table in the back garden

I don't need to order any ants either, I just found a huge pile of them in our porch!? Might have to put some poison down, but not before I collect a load up.

EDIT: God, HOW HARD is it to get those little guys in the ant farm? Everytime I tried to put a new batch in, the old batch started trying to get out.

I haven't been able to find any grubs yet cos it was raining earlier so there aren't many ants milling around (ususally makes it easier to find their base).

Doea anyone know if you can just nick grubs from anoy old colony, or do you have to make sure the grubs come from the same colony as the ants? I might try and introduce some grubs later when the weather is better.
