BT Infinity option 2 is now an unlimited service. You can download/ upload as much as you like. P2P protocols (inc Torrents) are throttled 4pm - midnight weekdays, 9am -midnight weekends. P2P uploads are throttled pretty much all the time, ie 24/7. Newsgoups are not throttled in any way downloading from or posting to newsgroups you'll get the max speed your line is capable of. BT Infinity option 2 currently costs £25.60 per month

Unless you want a static IP address, when you have to go to business service at £30/month + £5 for 5 static IPs - but still not bad as that gives faster upload speed.

That might be but I'm having it installed in a couple of days...HH3 already arrived and engineer bringing vDSL modem with him Monday afternoon.

Estimated line speed is listed as 32MB download and 9MB upload on the BT Infinity checker...beats my current O2 service by a country mile!

Plan is to leave the HH3 in the box and connect vDSL modem directly into my DrayTek Vigor 2820

Strangely though one of my three numbers is intermittently saying it is not available and my g/f's number is always listed as not yet available?

    Go figure...

and will that then host a few VPN's? ie can two people working from home on diff VPN's both work at the same time?

No, use the BT modem as the modem - the output goes into the WAN connection of the 2820 which acts as the router. The ADSL modem part of the 2820 bypassed.

The 2820 does support VPNs, although I'm not sure it would support two independent VPNs to two subnets, although the 2820 does support two separate subnets. But it will support more than one person connection through two VPs to the sme subnet (so that as far as a user on he subnet is concerned, the to remote users appear to be local, and the remote computers have a local subnet IP, for routing subnet traffic, in addition to the public IP address that supports the VPN 'pipe')

The modem is delivered by the Engineer on the day of install apparently and is part of the package at no additional cost.

As for it being any good well I might be able to let you know after it has been delivered & installed on Monday!

The DrayTek is far more than just a switch(!) but yes I plan to use the 2820 instead of the Home Hub 3 which was delivered a couple of days ago.

    Kind regards,

The 2820 will support up to 32 simultaneous VPN connections apparently but I cannot vouch for this in practice as I have only made the one connection at a time!

    Kind regards,

Re: BT Infinity - anyone got it yet?

    I didn't explain right..sorry.

I've GOT a 2820 and use the VPN's in multiples on occassion. Sair and I workfor diff company's and use simulataneous VPN's to wrk from home. Hence the importance, but didn't want to spend out on a new router (would have to be Draytek again) to get Infinity...

I was worried that using the BT router that IT might not handle the VPN's through itself.... via the Draytek.

Re: BT Infinity - anyone got it yet?

    Ah, I Seeee!

Yes, as far as I can tell, the Draytek will operate exactly as before. The only difference will be that the internal ADSL modem won't be used, you will use the external BT modem instead - just as if it was a cable connection. You won't need the BT router (AKA home hub3)

I see that Draytek have a router specifically for BT infinity (the 2750 - which still needs the BT modem) but the 2820 wll be fine!

Re: BT Infinity - anyone got it yet?

I currently get my broadband from Be*. This means I have a BT line. If I put the number of the line into BT's site to check when BT Infinity is available it says the phone number is not a BT one. So I put my house number and post code in, the result is that from September 30th 2011 BT Infinity will be available here.

So why, when I look at the map on the Infinity part of BT's site (http://www.productsandservices.bt.co...?topicId=29017) and look at the 'East' region my town is listed under the gold text saying "Great news! These exchanges are ready for BT Infinity"? Now I'm mega-confused. My phone number, with a Be broadband package, isn't recognised by BT, my address will have BT Infinity capability from 30th September onwards according to the address lookup but the map says my town is ready now!?

Looks like I'll have to ring BT up and get a proper answer from them. One thing I don't understand, if this is a fibre optic service, why do I need to have a BT phoneline? Is it just because BT want a prior account?
