Thanks for this guide Clunk - I've recently built an E6600 based system, and have been looking at a novices guide to overclocking - this seems to be pitched perfectly at that level.

Thanks again - I'll let you know how I get on. I'll be happy with 3.00GHz though

Yeah, really excellent guide Clunk. I'll be sure to take notes before I clock my future E/Q6600 up to 3GHz. Haven't touched a BIOS since pre-DDR2 days....

5 X's from me. Thanks Clunk! I've got my 6600 running happily at 3150 (350 x 9) - Not quite sure what my temps are as my AB9PRO 965 mobo seems to confuse temp monitoring software.

mjb10000, have you overclocked your GPU too?

I have the same GPU as you, would be interested to see what you can get out of your system. Have you tried 3D Mark 06?

    I got:

    2.8GHz/600-1800 - 9697 Marks
    3.0GHz/650-1900 - 10324 Marks

Stupidly, I didn't try stock speeds...

Got a request Clunk, if you have the time and energy.

Any chance you could give brief descriptions of the memory setting other than the usual x-x-x-x ones? What they do and what values are safe to use perhaps? 5-5-5-15 and such is fine, I understand that, but the rest is Greek to me and I'd kind a like to get at least a slight grip on it.

I'll do a seperate add on for slightly more advanced stuff. I wont add the ram stuff to this guide bacause it will just confuse the people that this is aimed at, if you see what I mean

The thing with the subtimings though, its different for most boards and ram. For most people, things run best when the motherboard defaults are used for DRAM Write Recovery Time, TRFC, TRRD, Rank Write To Read Delay, Read to Precharge Delay, Write to Precharge Delay.

Some ram modules seem to prefer haveing their own set of subtimings manually, I had some Corsair PC2-6400 sticks that wouldnt run stable in the P5B, unless I entered some really odd subtimings, and they were nothing like what Corsair recommended. Its just a case of finding out what works best for your ram and your board.

There are a few minor speed increases to be had, and I'll get to them in the next bit of the guide

Roger, I'll be looking forward to that one then. Got an approx. timeline at all? Of course I hope my 4 new 2GB modules will just work, so I won't really need the guide. :-)
