Okay, thread cleaned up.
Don't make me do it again - I thought our community was better than that?

now morality of guilt tripping money out of a loved family member who has behaved badly not begining to aliviate your behaving badly....
Why not get two very nice 30" screens?
Some very nice speakers.
Waiting for the i7 processors.
Get a good desk + chair.
Get a big RAID of SSDs?
But seriously you should really question if the money is ilgotten, and if you've got the money anyway, if theres something better you could do with it.
throw new ArgumentException (String, String, Exception)
I warned you, i warned you all....
Anyway, i'd say the 5 grand system is on track (what.. no thanks for my post? - I thought that my table and chair suggestion was decent!).
Anyway, on to spec'ing a 1 grand system. For this, we are going to need (i assume) a base unit, Windows, a monitor, peripherals, and no extras. (If you want extras eg ext. hard drive, that can surely be a part of the 5k set-up and you can move them around?).
So....
Peripherals
Keyboard & Mouse - Wired MS bundle, £16. I like MS mice, and after using wireless stuff for a while i find more frustrations than pleasure.
Monitor - 24" Dell 1920 x 1080 £233. Hey, why go less, £1k is still a good budget!
Speakers - Creative iTrigue 2.1 3330s £48. I have a similar pair and there are all i need. Great.
Sub-total of this lot = £297.
Base Unit
Case - Antec 300. £41. No particular reason, but it's a good case.
PSU - Corsair VX 550W £55.
Motherboard - Asus P5Q £86. No need for multi-graphics card options, so keep the budget down.
Graphics - HD4870 £182. Enough grunt to power the monitor!
Memory - 4GB of Corsair PC2-8500 £76.
Hard drive - 640GB Western Dig AAKS £48. 2 platters for fast & quiet.
Optical - Any drive really! £15. They are all good and cheap these days. Blu-Ray is overpriced though still.
CPU - Core2Duo E8200. £105. Great overclockers, large L2 cache, can't complain.
CPU HSF - A.C. Freezer 7 Pro £15. I know it's budget, but i love 'em!
Sub-total of this lot = £623
Operating System
Vista 32bit Home Edition £66. I'd actually prefer XP, but you want to use that DX10 if possible...
Total = £986.
How's that?

What the hell? Administration like this makes me not want to post on Hexus anymore. I think what the OP was writing was pretty disgusting in many respects, and he got the response he deserved. People were pretty polite about it, apart from a couple of posts (which were not mine). I certainly don't see the need to remove idle banter posts that are mildly amusing. How authoritarian. And a bit pathetic, I think, personally.
MSIC only think I would change is the cooler you have £15 spare so upgrade to the Scythe Ninja 2 for £30 better quality and quieter and it rounds the budget off nicely

Maybe you don't see the need, but then, Stoo is a mod and he's doing what he's supposed to do in situations like this. This forum is a hardware forum, and whatever people think of the motivation for the PC, the OP didn't ask for moral judgements about him - he asked for advice about a PC spec.
Whether you continue to post here or not is entirely up to you, but mods are supposed to exercise judgement in situations like this, and Stoo did, and he did pretty much exactly what I would have done.
On more than a few occasions, Fraz, I've seen threads that start out with what you describe as "mildly amusing" deteriorate into outright flaming wars, and so we tend to stop that before it gets to that point, when we see a situation that has that sort of potential.
It's always a bit of a judgement call, but we do exercise a pretty light hand over these things, most of the time. If, however, you feel that even that degree of moderation is too much for you and it makes you want to not post here, then nobody is forcing you to and perhaps Hexus isn't for you. But the moderation we do is designed to keep an overall balance, and sometimes, deleting posts is what it needs. I've been through all the deleted posts, and they certainly weren't adding anything to the subject at hand, and this is Hardware, not GD. Off-topic banter, and especially banter that could be perceived as insulting, is hardly relevant.
Now can we PLEASE get back on topic and stop moaning either about morality or moderation in this thread, because if I have to come back and do another cleanup after Stoo's, some people are going to find they can't post here for a while.
If anyone wants to debate this further, please take it up with a mod, or me, or another admin by PM, not in this thread.
What do you want to do with your computer?
From what you've said, your financial situation could become tougher than it is now, so if you spec up what you "need" from your computer (plus a few "wants", sure), then you won't "waste" money.
At worst, as another reviewer said, when your PC isn't as elite as it was 6-months down the line, you would have some money in the bank account for upgrades.
Or buy a car - that's truly excellent advice.
I liked the way you got a word in... Nah, good luck to you. I think Scan are superb. (No, seriously.)
Made me laugh - that's hard btw.
(Bit about the 'tent' made me laugh - expresses my sentiments. Am I aloud to say this? Better not say it then, had I?)
Agreed with this above. Define what you need (and want) to do, then you'll get value for money.
Why have you just resurrected two dead threads?
